Re: Also great job coaching when beating Bama, OSU, OK, ND

Darn right Clemson is recruiting at a very high level in recent years.

But, somewhat like Wake, we beat a bunch of teams starting 2012 through 2016 that, over the previous 4 year recruiting period, had noticeably out-recruited us.

OH State: White meat chicken to us, even though their cumulative recruiting ranking from 2008 to 2016 was better than ours.

Oklahoma: Banana pudding to us, even though their cumulative recruiting ranking from 2008 to 2016 was better than ours.

N.Dame: Cup of hot cocoa to us, even though their cumulative recruiting ranking from 2008 to 2016 was better than ours.

Bama: OK, not easy, but we did beat them in 2016 and had the 2015 nail biter loss despite their overwhelmingly better recruiting success.

(*) Before Clemson started recruiting at the top of the heap, we outcoached top teams that had out-recruited us.

So Dabo's bunch can walk and chew gum (i.e., recruit and coach) at the same time.

So

No surprise here. Wake recruits smart, solid HS ball players

Sep 26, 2022, 3:50 PM

whose intention is to go to college for a degree and pay for it by playing football. They get good coaching while they are there and most of them are happy to stick around for 4/5 years to get the college experience. We are currently in a bubble where they are able to stick around for 5/6 years.

That means that every few years, they are going to field a team of 23–24-year-old adults who have been working on their skills since they were 18. Those cyclical teams are capable of giving everyone a fit and and they beat most of the teams they face.

Contrast that with Clemson where the average 4th year guy is there because he was a late bloomer, his career got derailed by an injury or he is a solid 3 star guy who could have gone to Wake but just wanted to be a Tiger.

The respective rankings fit the way these two schools have chosen to build their programs.

That was the Cliff Ellis model, too. That's why he had a pretty good team every 2 or 3 years.

Are you trying to say they're underrated and well-coached?

Agreed.

So it sounds like Clemson has ranked on average higher than their recruiting class just like wake.

final rankings: 2021 - 14, 2020 -3, 2019 - 2, 2018 -1

average those 4 years is 5.

Seems a lot of Chicken type whiners around this place. Too stupid to realize that you have been reduced to whining about a close win for Clemson LOL
