Vetting portal candidates

What requirements would we require from a portal candidate? I believe it has been said that Mukuba is the recruit CDS has ever taken a commitment from without meeting. When recruiting HS kids CDS has pretty much required a campus visit before an offer is made.

It seems we are a little more methodical than most schools when recruiting. With match and culture being so important, what does the recruitment of portal individual look like? We have always prided ourselves in developing relationships, it seems this is going to be very difficult unless we had prior contacts with an individual during the HS recruiting process. I wonder if this is what bothers CDS more than anything else. Given the speed of the portal process, this is far from our standard operating procedures.

Are face to face meetings between portal entries and coaches even allowable? Can a portal recruit take an unofficial visit to campus?

In basketball, we hosted visitors from the transfer portal.

It’s basically an official visit where they tour campus and facilities, meet with players and coaches, etc.

I assume it’s the same for football.

Is it an all expense paid visit like a traditional "official"? Is there a limit to the number of visits a university can offer per cycle?
