Sorry. I know this is about basketball, but the same thing could happen in football. Is this just the next step in doing away with conference championship games and basketball, and other sports, championship tournaments?



Example: Clemson is 10-2 in ACC, 21-5 overall. They could upset Duke and win the ACC tournament. Best they could hope for would be a #5 seed. On the other hand, a #4 seed could lose their opening game in their tournament and still keep their #4 seed.



So, why have the tournament in the first place? Just makes it even more meaningless than it used to be.



In football, will we see the committee rank the top 8 seeds before the championship games are even played? Will they rank 2 SEC teams in the top 4 even before the Bubba Bowl? Will all 8 seeds be from the SEC and B1G? Why not?

Unfortunately because we are in the ACC we will be screwed in the rankings across all sports.

Bret, you are way off base of your usual good thinking. Seeds are not set until the season is over so stay tuned.

It’s a snapshot of current just like the CFP but less frequently (atleast I don’t think they publish it weekly from here on out). It’s interesting to consider the 4 seeds, because if Clemson were to stay on a heater into the ACCT, that’s probably their ceiling if one of those teams falters.

Clemson was in this at #4 I believe back in the '17-18 season when they first started this type of later season seeding preview. Wound up a 5 seed on our way to the Sweet 16. It's similar to the current CFP rankings - just a snapshot of where things stand today. No biggie really - just another ranking service.
