And, because it is Fathers Day, we reflect.

My Dad was never one of the "touchy feely" types. He grew up in the Depression, where everything was hard. To hear him say he was proud of you was something that was truly cherished, as it was very rarely heard, and thus, truly meant something when you did hear it.

But, none of us five kids had the slightest doubt that we were loved. It was just THERE, in the background, every single day of our young, or older lives. It was kind of like the sun coming up, you knew it was going to be there, no matter what.

My Dad and I butted heads for awhile when I was growing up, most likely because, as my sisters reminded me, I was more like him that ANY of the rest of them. Sometimes, that was not a good thing, I inherited his bad back, almost a carbon copy. I also inherited his stubborness, which came in handy many times when solving knotty problems as a mechanic growing up, and as a Chemical Engineer later. All of that ability came from his teaching.

Thankfully, long before he died in 1998, we had repaired our relationship, and become friends. I visited him at the Oaks nursing facililty, where he and Mom had relocated, on the last day of his life. He died of congestive heart failure less than twelve hours after that visit. There were no things left unsaid, and I am eternally grateful for that. Happy Fathers Day, Dad.

Happy Father’s Day to all!

Like you 76er®, my Dad is no longer alive. Mine passed away in 2008 of a heart attack.
I miss him every day, as I am sure you miss yours as well.

My dad passed on back in 2016 and our relationship mirrored the one you described.
Dad was loved by everyone who knew him because he showed love to everyone. His spirit is alive and keeps building up in me more each day.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY, DAD!

Lost my Father in 2000, and not a day passes that I don't wish I could sit down with him and talk about life in general, and garner some of his wisdom on different things!!

I lost my dad to a heart attack when I was a teen. I always miss him and wish he had been around long enough to know my daughter and her kids. I am named for his dad who I never met because he died before I was born. My fathers day was going to a triple a game with all ny daughters family. So we had great fun and a beautiful evening.

Sounds a lot like mine. Was by his side 10 years ago tomorrow on his last day in Hospice in Rock Hill. He made it to 88. I still remember him thanking my wife for giving him the grandkids and great grandkids.

Happy Father’s Day. I too miss my dad who passed away in 2017. My mother passed 3 months later. They taught me what it means to be a family. They stuck together no matter the circumstance. Love you dad.

Lost my dad in1993. Way too early. He was from the greatest generation ever. I never heard him say I love you. But I knew I was loved very much! Happy Father’s Day Dad! Miss you and love you!
