TNET: WATCH: David Pollack thinks Clemson should join SEC

WATCH: David Pollack thinks Clemson should join SEC

Clemson has made an incredible six straight appearances in the College Football Playoff as they have dominated the ACC during that span. Despite all that success, ESPN college football analyst David Pollack thinks Clemson's best move for the future is to hitch their wagon to the SEC. "ACC, what do y Read Update »

Some thinks that it would be much harder for Clemson to win in the SEC, but I just don't see it bc, I believe that Clemson, Dabo, and staff would get a lot more of the 5 star guys that believe that it's better in the SEC, and they won't commit no where but to an SEC school!!!! And we have lost a lot of the Elite recruits only bc we're not in the SEC, and they have been convinced that they would be better in the SEC....

Pollack HATES Clemson.
We knocked off Georgia after they won the National Championship! They still can't get over that, which is why they quit playing us every year.
They hate getting beat by Clemson more than any other school. They used to think they owned us.

Stay in the ACC or if it falls apart, then join the SEC. The ACC has numerous teams with National Championships in Football: Clemson, FSU, Miami, Georgia Tech, Pitt, (Maryland in the past). Along with others that have been close like VA Tech. We have to get the ACC to step up!

What’s the point of leaving, money? We can play any of the SEC teams if they will schedule us!
Texas A&M and Texas make twice the money we do at Clemson in total athletic revenue, counting IPTAY. Ohio State and Michigan are close to the top on revenue. We are about 30th in the NCAA based on athletic revenue. These other schools are huge, with giant Alumni bases. They graduate 2 or 3 times more students than we do every year and put 100,000 fans in the stands for most games, and their ticket prices are twice our prices.
We need to take care of Clemson and let the others schools struggle to 'be like Clemson'. Look at the mess at Texas, Texas A&M, Michigan, FSU, Auburn, USC, etc... Alabama dominates the SEC, and will continue to with Saban, just like Bear used to do.

Instead of changing conferences to improve our schedule, we should drop SC State, Akron, and Connecticut ‘type’ games. The Citadel and Furman are OK because of our old Southern Conference history. But Coastal and App State would be much better additions to our schedule, and play at least 2 SEC games per year along with the ND games. We can make our own schedule better with some creativity.

Go Tigers, Beat Georgia!

I think we should invite Alabama to join the ACC, go to pods and kick Notre Dame all the way out.

Just that easy?

Jul 29, 2021, 11:17 AM

What about the media rights the ACC owns? Clemson chained themselves to the mast of the ACC.

Pi$$ on the ACC...

Jul 29, 2021, 11:22 AM

Let them merge with the Big East and form a basketball centric conference.

It's all they've ever given a **** about anyway.

Wouldn't those media right $$$ be owed to ESPN in the end? If ESPN wants Clemson and a few others in the SEC why couldn't they make it happen if they have as much power as some seem to believe?

Jul 29, 2021, 2:33 PM

Clemson and FSU from the ACC. Fact is, all Big 10 schools are heavily into research so neither Clemson nor FSU qualify. If the Big 10 would sacrifice that maybe but why speculate on something with such a low probability?

I'd rather be in the B1G than the SEC but I'm not holding my breath.

David Pollack is clueless about a lot of things related to his work as a commentator on college football.
I am not surprised he does not understand why many Clemson people do not want to be in the SEC. We may have to go. We may be forced to play in a 12 team playoff.

The SEC teams have a large fan base. SEC teams have made a lot of money in the past 20 years or so.
That money and their league have not done anything to make the football programs at Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Kentucky or Georgia particularly successful over those 20 years of of big money. They have a TV network that wants to cuddle with them and apparently the cuddling with the TV guys makes the whole league feel good about themselves.

Many, perhaps most Clemson fans like who we are. Many, perhaps most Clemson fans like where we are.

Many Clemson fans know that the only team in the SEC with more National Titles since 1936 than Clemson is Alabama. Florida and LSU with 3 titles each can match Clemson's 3 titles and FSU's 3 titles. Miami, with five titles, has more than any team in the SEC besides Alabama. Pitt has 2 Natty's since 1936, the same number as Tennessee. A lot of teams have only 1 title since 1936.

Seems to me that lots of teams outside of the SEC have done better nationally than most of the teams inside the SEC.

Perhaps over the long haul, teams that stand on their own two feet do fairly well playing football when compared to most teams in most leagues.

Fools Rush In. I think Clemson /ACC

Jul 30, 2021, 2:29 AM

I think Clemson should support the ACC right now. Long time Clemson University supporter here. Growing up, I had my issues with Greensboro. But a lot of things have changed over the decades, especially since the ACC expanded, and mostly for the better. Clemson is also, once again, the premiere program in ACC football, and one in the nation. And for now, it's become part of their identity again. But that could realistically change, too. It also took two decades of competing and recruiting in and against the big state of Florida to achieve that. And it took years of contributions, support, patience, and hard work to rebuild athletics the right way, and grow our "brand" to what it is now.

And the school benefits too from that brand.
Aside from being a founding member in the ACC, I also think there are probable advantages to being in a league with better schools academically, and schools with better cultures on campus. I love and enjoy Clemson athletics, but the university has grown and diversified, academically as well. And it really is all about the University's future in the end. Sure, there might be certain advantages money wise to making a rash or quick move for the media dollars. But we stand to possibly lose other advantages, and potentially, part of that identity. Would Clemson's identity and brand being absorbed into just a bigger brand, be better for the students, and the alumni in the long run? Does all that really matter, even, in the long run? I am not so sure, yet.
I think Clemson needs to be patient, support their league, analyze all the data and the facts, or as much as it can, before making any rash decisions. I am sure, and hope their leaders will.
Look before you leap.

One word: TRADITION! Clemson can pull the ACC up. Miami, Fla. State, Va Tech, NC, Notre Dame, are all championship-ready programs and are recruiting well. Let's pull all of that Championship-facilities, coaches and tradition together and have an SEC whoopin' conference.

Clemson should stay in the ACC. There are too many teams in the SEC and does anyone expect Clemson to ever have the revenue of Texas or Alabama? Will any other school in B10 ever have the revenue of OhioSt or Michigan.

Notre Dame will eventually join ACC in football. I would invite Navy at that time, But never West Virginia.

I think Maryland and South Carolina would like to be back in the ACC but not sure the ACC want them back.

We do need the other ACC schools to upgrade their facilities and their football teams.
To be honest how many SEC teams are competitive with Alabama the last few years?

A little info for the people on here that think Pollack hates Clemson. David has mentioned many times that he almost committed to CU, that he almost transferred there and that he loves what they do. So for a dodo to say an analyst hates a certain school( other that Finbaum) is nuts.
