DJ Uiagalelei projected as nation's fourth-best QB in 2021
247Sports projected the top quarterbacks for 2021 this week and Clemson's first-year starter DJ Uiagalelei is in the top-5. Uiagalelei is rated fourth after performing well in two starts last year when Trevor Lawrence was out for COVID-19 protocol. "Don't expect much production drop-off at the quart Read Update » |

Will he put up the same stats as the others will? Probably not since he’ll be sitting out a lot of 4th quarters. Will he perform better? I believe he will. After seeing his decision making I think he might throw 5 INTs have about 30 passing TDs and another 8 rushing. May throw for around 2800 yards since he won’t play too much or be in very competitive games.

I hate to be the Debbie Downer here, but the last 3 years under Trevor are not normal--we all need to pump the brakes and be prepared for "competitive" games this coming year and not think the sky is falling if we "only" win by 14-21 points in a lot of games. I have no doubt DJ will be outstanding and can carry us to a 7th and 8th straight ACC title along with keeping us in the playoff every year, but everyone needs to realize just how special Trevor is/was and that is not reality. How many 4 quarter games did DW4 have to play...a lot. I hope I am wrong but I think we are looking more at that reality than the one Trevor gave us the last 3 years. And for the "but the defense will be awesome" guys out there, those DW4 teams had elite defenses too. Like I said I hope I am being overly cautious, but we all need to slow it down and just let our teams play and create an identity before worrying about how our QB1 will have worse numbers due to sitting out a lot of 4th quarters, chill and let 'em play, it's not fair to the players or our program

...DJU is still gonna have a learning curve as he gains experience.
Pump the brakes.

The talent and depth at almost every other position group is much higher now than when DW was at QB. TE, RB, WR all are much deeper. We’ll be fine with Helms in mop up.

Not sold on JT Daniels, sorry. I'd take DJ over him any day.

With lack of depth at QB, DJ won't run as often as he needs to keep defenses honest. I hope I'm wrong.

This is not necessarily a bad thing. I thought we were far too reckless with Trevor running the ball. There were times when we'd be up by 30 points and we'd still be running QB keepers instead of doing the smart thing and handing it to ETN.

I heard DJ only threw 2 TD's all of spring.

Maybe that was him being conservative. But he didn't exactly light it up during the orange & white game either. But I wish him nothing but the best, I personally hope he lights it up, but the jury is still out.
Go TIGERS beat them ALL!

He lit it up in South Bend against one of the best defenses in the country, but we are going to judge him on an intrasquad scrimmage? Enough with the Orange and White game.

Agree .. a big part of the spring is to put the QB ( or other key players) in a tough spot and see how they perform.
A QB that blows it away in the spring game is probably not being pushed ... in most cases.

Spring game required almost all short pass routes due to Dabo's "touch=sack" rules. BV was allowed to blitz, and the DL development is naturally ahead of the OL development, so if DJ and Taisun didn't make quick reads and throws, they were going to have negative plays.
Later in the game Taisun was able to make some longer throws because he had a more experienced line.
Contrast with DJ, who kept sliding up in the pocket to buy time but ended up with numerous 'sacks', even though in big-boy football DJ will not be sacked by a one-handed lineman.
In short, our spring game is not a showcase. It is a scrimmage.

I don't have yet have the TN credentials to reply to a football topic so expect my rating here to drop to 50. I do have decades of experience as a Tiger spectator.
I don't expect DJ to step on the field against UGA and look like TL. He lacks all that great TL experience. He will be 20 this week, so still a kid. He is not NFL ready. He seems to be special as to talent both mental and physical. He could have started most places but came to Clemson to ride the pine.
I believe at end of year he will be seen as the best QB in CFB, and not just because I am a "homer". As to the UGA game, we take that much easier than so called experts will predict.
