The only stat that matters is on the scoreboard! I don't care if the QB is good or bad if he wins. That is why you play the game!

If they keep having to tell everyone that DJ is the man, then he is either mentally weak and not able to handle it, or they don’t really believe it either . The other option is that have missed on 2 QB evaluations in a row and don’t want to admit it.

If I was playing Clemson, I would blitz from the first play, and not stop until he beat me multiple times. Bet I would win 98 times out of 100

Re: ummmm ...........4-25 vs your rival at HOME with passes -

Nov 30, 2022, 7:04 PM

Great stat however it seems the narrative is other QBs receivers do not ever drop passes. If it were not for the 3 drops down field the 16% completion rate you mention sky rockets to a 28% completion rate. And I agree with Dabo, we would have won the game if not for the drops. Dabo is essentially saying we win with a 28% completion rate on passes past the line of scrimmage. Let that sink in.

Re: Tim Bourret stat on DJ

Nov 30, 2022, 3:48 PM

Since you brought it up, what's his QBR? That looks at everything a QB does (overall QB efficiency).

Well I'll tell you:

DJ is 48th with a QBR of 65.9
Young is 8th with a QBR of 83.9
Hooker is 2nd with a QBR of 89.5
Maye is 9th with a QBR of 83.8

Passing Yards per Attempt (yardage gained on passing plays divided by # of passing plays, including sacks)

#80 DJ - 6.88 yds/attempt
#26 Young - 8.38 yds/attempt
#1 Hooker - 9.53 yds/attempt
#15 Maye - 8.74 yds/attempt

I guess its kind of hard for DJ to have a higher yds/attempt when his passes are at or behind the L.O.S.

Re: he is also 21-5 as a starter

He seems to struggle against teams with a pulse though. ND and GA were both shizz shows. SC brought there A game and we seen how that turned out as well. I’m thinking some Danny Ford coached teams had more yards throwing and they ran the option.

I feel for the guy I really do. I’m sure most will not forget Saturday’s stats. Maybe the worst I have ever witnessed and it just had to be against SC. I honestly thought he would have been a solid QB for us this year. It was like nothing changed from last year. Really hard to comprehend for me at least.

ND manhandled us up front, he did not stand a chance being that he is a pocket passer.. Turnovers sealed our fate against a very motivated gamecock team.

Nov 30, 2022, 6:48 PM

have your eyes picked up on the fact that he is 21-5 as a starter, all while surrounded by mediocre skill players? Tommy West had better receivers the year he got fired. I'd take Mal Lawyer, Rod Gardner and Justin Watts over everyone on this roster except Antonio Williams. I think we sent 7 defensive players to the NFL that year despite a losing record. Some of you have zero perspective.

2023 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Tim Bourret stat on DJ

Nov 30, 2022, 7:04 PM

My eyes have also shown me that our defense has saved him in 80-90% of those games as starter as well.

2020: DJ did good enough against BC the loss @ND wasn't on him.

2021: Defense won us every game with our trash offense outside of maybe Wake where we were still slogging along with just a decent run game late in the year.

2022: DJ won us the game against Wake I'll give him that. Cade and defense won us Cuse so put an asterisk on that game for DJ. Did just enough in every other game but nothing impressive. Defense kept many of these games this year from being closer than they appeared outside FSU and Wake, not the offense lighting it up through the air with DJ's arm.

I can break down every single game for you if you'd like. Like I said, I have eyes. In short, that's a skewed stat. Is it all on DJ? No, of course not. But I'm not going to fool myself into believing he's a great quarterback on par with other guys with similar Win/Loss record.

He was good enough of a Qb to get us into the playoffs this year, but things did not go our way. I can think of 100 other D1 programs that would love to have our "Problems".

2023 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Tim Bourret stat on DJ

Nov 30, 2022, 7:53 PM

True enough. But in retrospect who have we really beaten that's truly note worthy? FSU & healthy NC State who was still suspect? The ACC just isn't good and that's not DJ's fault either. But regardless he has not been sharp even against the worst of defenses minus Wake. Miami was not a good showing. Louisville wasn't good. Syracuse was AWFUL. Notre Dame gave us nothing but that's on Streeter and Dabo as much as DJ as well with poor game plan. Georgia Tech was clunky. Furman was even subpar considering it's a FCS school. Louisiana Tech nothing note worthy. BC was a dogfight and was 24-3 till we had a late score...BC...then we know what happened with South Carolina.

DJ is averaging 209 yards a game this year through the air...that's not good. You'd realistically want that average around 260 range to be having a good year.

For example Bryce Young is sitting at 250 yards per game through the air. And that's while missing a game and a half due to injury. That's also while Alabama is having their worst year in a while and not living to their standards. They are having receiver issues as well, yet still getting decent enough production in their passing game regardless.

Stetson Bennett: averaging 262 yards per game through the air. And UGA is run and pound you down first team to open up their pass. And their main weapons in the passing game is their monster TE's.

Yet, we can't do that with DJ and our good TE's and run game. That's on Streeter as much as it is on DJ. TE's have been open this year. Our receivers have been open this year. DJ has just been throwing lame ducks again or ovethrowing. Or trying to force balls into tight or double coverage.

So idk what more to tell you. I can keep comparing to other QB's that are around the status we are in CFB and it'd come out with similar results. I can name 100 other teams that wouldn't want to be having a QB problem right now, so idk what you're aiming at here trying to make me seem ungrateful we are 10-2. I'm just saying, we have a QB and offense problem and I don't want to bury my head in the sand and whistle past the graveyard about it.

If 100 other FBS programs would love to have our "problems", that only puts us in the top 31. We want to be Top 5, Top 15 at the worst.

I understand "down" games and even "down" years. I think we all do. But after all the promises Dabo has made, we shouldn't be looking at finishing outside the top 10 two years in a row, should we?

And what do we owe the ACC? I realize many fans say, "NOTHING!" But if the ACC champion is barely a Top 10 program, you can kiss that automatic qualification into the CFP goodbye (or once it expands, the only ACC rep will get a poor draw).

Early on under Dabo, we added strong out-of-conference opponents in order to boost our SoS and challenge our kids. He has always handled OoC foes well while scheduling 10 Power 5 opponents per season (only about 30 schools do that, and none are in the SEC). But this year, we lost both of those extra games to ND and SC. Not a good look.

And I'm not concerned about a single loss to SoKar. I'm concerned that they coached and played hungry, and we didn't. I'm concerned that they are finally figuring out who they are and what they can do, and we still don't know. And in spite of getting extra practice time for a CCG and bowl game, I'm not convinced our coaching staff is going to have our young guys ready to be game-changers in 2023.

Take out the bubble screens, near the line of scrimmage, passes towards the side lines, near the line of scrimmage, the hand offs to receivers on a sweep,(counts as a pass), passes not within 10 yards of the receiver, then look at his stats with passes more than ten yard beyond the line of scrimmage, and I can assure you his stats would drop like the stock market on a bad day. It would be more reflective of his true ratings
