Tiger Softball ……. Did Rittman

alert the umps that the Coot pitcher tended to throw illegal pitches before the game started. If so, that is great coaching.

Not sure what conference the umps are from, but I am guessing the Coot pitcher has been getting away with illegal pitches all year.

Probably so

I remember on Florida’s national title teams In 2015-16. There was a pitcher Kelly Barnhill who was one of the top pitchers in the country but every opposing team complained about her illegal pitches. But she apparently always got away with it.

Seems like it’s almost random when unos enforce. Probably why the SC coach got so mad

I think so. Someone caught it watching film for sure.

What exactly makes a pitch illegal?

The pitcher has to keep a foot on the ground.

Their pitcher would leap.

Textbook explanation of illegal pitch

The pivot foot must remain in contact with or push off and drag away from the pitching plate prior to the front foot touching the ground, as long as the pivot foot remains in contact with the ground.
When the pivot foot leaves the ground it is considered a "leap" and is considered an illegal pitch.

Last season, Virginia Tech's ace pitcher was called for the same thing multiple times in many games. The SCar pitcher was doing the same thing tonight in Clemson.

The SCar coach was tossed in the 2nd inning because once the umpire warns a pitcher and the coach about an illegal pitch, the coach cannot further question the violation when/if it happens again.

It was fun as a Tiger Softball fan to watch the drama unfold on our home field as we stomped those Hens.

And fitting that it's called a crow hop.
