This Japan - Mexico WBC semifinal game just got good

A clutch 3-run homer by Masataka Yoshida put Japan on the board and tied it up at 3-3. The 8th inning just started and now Mexico is threatening to score with a runner on 2nd and one out. The winner plays the USA in the championship game tomorrow at 7pm on FS1.

Japan was considered a top contender to win the tournament, whereas Mexico was much more of a long shot.. but Mexico and the USA already played each other once in pool play and Mexico won that game 11-5.

Japan wins 6-5 with a 2-run double in the bottom of the 9th***

A USA vs Mexico final would have had the revenge factor. It would feel more satisfying to win the tournament by beating the team that beat you already.

On the flip side, Mexico would have the dominant crowd advantage, and it would be awful to loose the final as the favorites to your biggest rival in sports on home soil.

Moot point now, but it definitely had me on the fence of who I wanted to win.
