too? It just makes sense to me. If you’ve been to Hawaii or the NC coast the sea turtle population has recovered in a huge way.
Growing up in the 70’s and 80’s in the Valley the balloons bought me a lot of joy. It was a huge part of running down the hill. We always seemed to be trying to reclaim some record.
What say you?

If you saw what we see on a daily basis in the coastal and offshore waters of the east coast, I think you might have a different opinion on the balloons.
Just yesterday we found and retrieved a Mylar balloon floating along the coast of Cumberland Island, Ga with a beautiful message written on it for someone’s lost loved one. That balloon didn’t reach heaven, it just became ugly litter and a big middle finger to god’s creation .

As someone who walks the beach every morning I agree. The amount of garbage that ends up in the ocean, balloons included, is sickening.

Plastic water bottles are the number one thing that should be banned on this planet.

Fines /penalties should be levied to the max for littering.

People who don’t travel just don’t know. I’ve been to 50+ beaches in the past three years, and the amount of plastic waste, plastic bottles, you name it, on the beaches is just astonishing. And nobody seems to know, and nobody seems to care.

I support the no balloons at Clemson as I believe lasers or drones would be better options
One question, do you think the balloon you found was from the upstate of SC or set free on the beach? Frankly, I don’t think the cheap balloons used by CU would travel that far to create any significant amount of ocean waste

LOL that’s a good point. The ones from Clemson probably fall somewhere in Columbia and no one notices amongst all the other trash.
By the way…are you feeling better after your seizure last night, Cobb? I was worried.

I spend a lot of time on the beach as I’ve lived in the east coast the last 25 years. I’ve seen Mylar, which doesn’t degrade. Can’t say I’ve ever seen the type of balloons clemson released. There’s also a bio friendly option. You think the NC coast is nasty?! US beaches are pristine compared to many I’ve seen in other countries. I doubt 50k bio friendly balloons is going to hurt anything.

and there were no balloons at Clemson games in the 70s and early 80s. The first balloon launch was the Maryland game on November 12, 1983.

I didn’t say they started in the 70’s, I said I grew up in the valley in the 70’s and 80’s. RIF as is reading comprehension. I was there for the first and last release.

well before that record setting day against Maryland. I just read the article here stating that was the first time.
Am I wrong? (If so, it'll be the 4th time today already.)

I understand not using traditional balloons as has been pointed out, there plenty of solutions to have both. Biodegradable, drones etc. I think the real solution would be to remove the seats from the new plan, add the Gen admin tickets back, including students. Then send the fire Marshall off with a nice retirement.
Pack the hill. It's amazing how much louder it is for the opposing players when you have a jammed packed party on the hill.

That’s what I’m saying. Mylar doesn’t break down in a decade. Typical balloons degrade a little quicker. There has to be a bio friendly option.

They are cool and I love the balloons, but if they are really truly killing things and are bad for the environment, I don't need balloons. They aren't that important. It's kind of like fireworks. Just give me a laser show if it means freaking out animals.

Everyone should start just bringing a couple orange balloons in their pockets into the stadium and before the team runs down the hill everybody just blows their balloons up and we all throw them up in the air?

biodegradable eatable balloon and we'll ge them back. Our chem dept should make that a top priority. If they would join with our agriculture dept they could make them out of canibus and smokable. Eat or smoke they would end up consumed.
I mean, make it legal and Clemson would jump on board. What's makes a crowd thirsty?

Put a chip in the balloon and a method of retrieval to track the balloon and ensure it is properly disposed of.
Imagine the cost some would say. Nobody would purchase balloons.
To them you say. Yes Earth is invaluable
