The transfer portal guarantees a larger drop off between starters and back ups.

Oct 18, 2021, 5:30 PM

Any player who would be a quality back up ready to take over and do a good job if a starter was out is now looking to be a starter no matter what instead of a teammate no matter what. I completely understand the pull toward the transfer portal, and thus toward starting exposure, and thus toward potential NIL/NFL opportunities, but it results in teams recruiting the best starters they can and not being able to rely on back ups as steadily as they once could.

I wish the best for Charleston - shame he can’t stick around and be a part of a truly elite defense.

Also, on a sidenote, we probably can’t play “We Too Deep” at home games anymore…

Nope, I honestly wonder if we are leading in the players leaving category, just hope recruits don’t look at this as a red flag

I bet we're the biggest Exits minus Enters from the portal

and it's probably not very close.

It’s been baffling and my biggest concern is recruits are going to take notice

What would be the red flag?

Playing the best players should be an attraction, not a red flag. With the exception of DK, I don’t know of any starters that transferred

The point is we’re losing the ability to spell our starters and replace them smoothly if necessary.

We haven’t lost any headliner starters unless you consider Lyn J to have been one (he had been surpassed by Shipley and others), but our 2- and 3-deep is becoming more of a precipitous drop by the week, it seems.

THIS will be the reason Dabo will eventually use the portal, I think.

Dabo needs....

To sign more HS kids.....and offer more. They are going to have to scramble to fill up with quality for the remaining openings in 22 class. We have some very good players committed...but aren't in ideal position with many other targets who we have offered too late (after missing first choices)

We're saving spots and scholarships for walk-ons that will never see the field, because "culture".

I agree!

My only thing is; there will still be a place for development in football. There is still the: "if a school is more of a path to the NFL over some other school then that plays a huge part in my decision"! Clemson regardless of transfer portal departures or not has too much recent success to worry "RIGHT NOW"!
I mean, Georgia currently hasn't won a NC in 40 years and they still recruit well. They also get a bunch of kids who go there and get in trouble yearly! They have their fair share of transfers as well. Hasn't hurt recruiting for them.

I think, as long as you treat kids well and you are a benefit to not only their academic career; but also their football career, there will always be a dominant Clemson football program.
As long as core values are adhered to and are applied consistently!

Two of the most poisonous developments in modern times, both of which should be relegated to the anuses of human history!
