The ACC's days are numbered....

And much as I don't like it, I think Clemson & Tech will be going to different conferences.

Everything points to two super-conferences now, the SEC and the B1G.

The B1G would like to get into the South, and Tech is a good way for them to do that. There are alot of Big 10 alumni in Atlanta. We are an AAU school, and we'd give them an easy entry into the South, which should help the B1G's recruiting. If the B1G comes callling, Tech would be insane to not take the call, and join. We already turned them down once, about a decade ago, which was insanely stupid and our second-worst decision of all time (the first being to leave the SEC in 1963).

Clemson will wind up in the SEC. You guys are a big brand name that allows the SEC to continue to accrue big-time football programs with huge fanbases. TV markets don't matter as much as eyeballs, and you guys give the SEC even more eyeballs.

It's been nice being in the same conference with you guys, and Clemson has always been my favorite rivalry. But this is about survival, and the ACC will not be around after 2036 at the latest. If we're able to get out of this sinking ship (and somehow navigate the GOR thing, not sure how), we both need to save our own a**. The ACC was a great place for Tech for many years. But it won't survive what the B1G and the SEC are unleashing on college football.

I’m beginning to make peace with this. Was in denial for a few days because I just can’t believe 70 years of membership will change so quickly.

You might be right, but my preference would be to have Clemson, FSU, Ga Tech and UNC go as a group to the SEC, assuming their is an invitation coming. Most “guesses” seem to have Miami over GT in this 4some. Maybe it’s selfish but Tech is much more desirable to have in conference than Miami - on campus stadium, can be competing with the right coach, easy road trip.

Plus, maybe the SEC would offer just to keep the B1G out of their backyard.

I don't think the SEC wants Tech. We don't add eyeballs for them. But the defensive move you mentioned - taking Tech to keep the B1G out of the South's backyard - is plausible.

The Tech fan in me would LOVE to get into the SEC with Clemson, FSU and Miami all together. We would lock down the deep South and Florida. But I don't see the SEC coming for Tech.

As much as I hate them. UNC would be desirable because of all the schools mentioned, it would be a territorial expansion. Better than adding a third Florida school in Miami.

I think Clemson needs an NC school to come with them so we can still effectively recruit NC.

I can understand UNC being desirable to the SEC, as well as the B1G.

The ACC is not going away because it too strong in women's sports, basketball and minor sports. The ACC is an academic conference and football pays the bills but will not die even if it cannot compete in football (if does now outside of us).

Excellent observations. I just don't see how this is sustainable for any of the TV revenue outlets. It eliminates everything "sports" have become.

It's much deeper and more complicated than what I see being discussed. You're talking major revenue, major institutions and traditions that will be eliminated. No more coastal baseball winning the CWS. No more liberty's competing for Soccer championship. No Cincy stories to get into the playoffs of CFP.

To me, this could eliminate a lot of jobs. Just don't see a lot of powerful and influential people sitting on the sidelines ideally by.

In essence, you're talking about elimination of the gonzaga bball stories. It gets complicated and messy. We're not just talking football. This will affect all collegiate sports. Why, because when you have 48 or 60 big name teams with a ton of cash, all atheletes from said 48 teams will cash in on NIL. Something an Arizona won't be able to offer.

I think Gonzaga basketball will be fine. The 68 team tourney will still exist. They are successful today without a huge media payout from a conference. I doubt that changes.

But to your point, the big colleges aren’t being very “collegial” to the smaller colleges. Greed and fear is driving everything now.
