The ACC is what it is.

Jul 5, 2022, 9:19 PM

Too many schools who really don't have a fan base that cares about Football. Before the Portal and NIL they had a chance to have a good season from time to time. With the Portal and NIL the landscape has made it impossible for these schools to compete. If you have a great player some big school with money is going to take them away. That's what the Portal and NIL has created. I have several GA Tech friends who have already lost interest in College Football. How many teams in the ACC can compete?
It's not many.
I loved the ACC because it still valued academics but the landscape of College sports doesn't care about academics anymore. It is what it is. Just hope Clemson lands in a good spot.

Nobody knows yet what effect NIL will have and the portal is full of players who couldn't make it where they were. The ACC is still relevant and can be better by adding ND and another school that values football.

That's wishful thinking. If ND wanted, they could have

stayed after the covid year.

No other football school will join the ACC. There's:
1. The Alliance Option- It will be interesting to see if they can jell into a conference.
2. Status quo- I don't see the football powers and wannabe's sit idle while the ACC gets left behind in revenue.
3. Leave for the SEC- I keep throwing up a little everytime I think of it. At least we can determine our future.

The ND factor is huge. Nauseating but huge.

I think there is a zero chance ND joins the ACC. For that matter, I think they stay independent for the immediate future or at least until there is no path to the CFP.

You still can only put 11 on the field at a time

I'm 100% sure Michigan at far better talent than App St; years ago in "The Big House"!

Warning: it's still a scholarship limit.
Warning: kids who want to get on the field will still turn and run; for the potential for even more money in the NFL which they won't make if no one sees them while they are buried on a depth chart.
Warning: NIL has the potential to create just as many problems as it solves in terms of which players get paid and which ones do not. Until it's regulated; expect some discord.

It's headed that way fast I agree! And, I am not sunshine pumper enough to think, "it doesn't matter"! I know better than that, but you still can only play 11 at a time that has to play as a unit. I watch football on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday(football head). I can confirm 100% that the most talented team does not always win. Turnovers, key missed blocking assignments, getting to the ball fast; but not wrapping up, etc. is still in the game. And still very much why teams will win or lose.
If the talent isn't just lopsided(well look at the Michigan example and I'm wrong) it usually will "YES" go the way of the NIL/loaded in the talent-rich team.

But, we'll see!
