Starting linebackers for next year?

Trenton Simpson.
After that, no clue. Lots of misses at the position with Kane Patterson gone, Keith Maguire not playing, Sergio Allen injured all the time, and Kevin Swint moved to DE. Skalski, Spector and Venables gone. If Kanak decommits, we are going to be super thin at the position.
Whoever we bring in needs to get cracking on recruiting some difference makers at the position.

Bentley is a matchup problem in the passing game.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Simpson in the middle to avoid that issue.

neither was Boulware, or Goodwin. In passing downs we're going to nickel most of the time. Always have. Stop the run first. Bentley is a wall there

receivers take advantage of a slow guy in the middle. It's not ideal. It hurt us this year, certainly against Pickett and Pitt.
Simpson in the middle would lessen the impact.

Bentley, Carter and Simpson. Not sure how reaction time will be but god given speed to burn. This will be a fast group with Bentley bruising in the middle. Trotter should be a solid fill in when needed.

It will be less complicated for sure with BV gone, and Bentley might shine in the middle being freed up to be an attack dog and not having to be so multiple.

He got burned in coverage a number of times this year. He's a thumper, however.

SLB - Simpson, MLB - Bentley, WLB - Carter

Now that’s a nasty lineup with the athleticism and physicality we’ve been waiting for at LB.

As the numerous posters which have already answered have pointed out, Clemson is at no shortage of highly talented LBs. And those listed below have playing experience (especially T.Simpson).
The biggest loss in next year's LB Corp will be the overall knowledge of the defense. Skalski was like a coach on the field, frequently getting the players to move to the correct position.
This isn't to suggest that next year's LBs are not smart. Rather, it is a matter of experience (Skalski was a 6th year senior this year).
No way that Skalski's knowledge-contribution can be replaced next year.
But regardless, LB and DT are the positions of least concern.
I'm more concerned about DBs ... especially CBs (which nevertheless will still be good).

Knowledge in Venables System. Don't think we will continue in that system because BV quick thinking and play calling is what made that engine go along with Skalski on the field.

We will be fine there. Bentley is ready and is a hard hitter in the Shuey-Boulware-Skalski mold except faster. Jeremiah Trotter is ready and destined for greatness. Simpson & Carter can play multiple positions well. We should be good at LB for a couple of years.

Bentley also played RB in high school. Go watch his film.. guy is not slow! He’s not as fast/athletic as Simpson but at least on the same level as Skalski, Spector, Goodson. Those were all very very good linebackers.
Next LBs should be a strength on that Defense!

He may have similar straight line speed to Skalski, I doubt it but maybe, but he is much stiffer and not as athletic. He's a straight line downhill thumper and that's it.

Simpson, Carter, Trotter and Bentley is alot of talent. We'll be fine there as long as one steps up to be the QB of the defense left by Skalski. Bentley will probably be more suited for that.
