Southern Baptist?

Being an SB for half a century I've learned to take a joke. I hope others won't take offense by this satirical article.

https://babylonbee.com/news/here-are-the-denominations-of-each-of-the-7-churches-in-revelation?mc_cid=5f8decc38f&mc_eid=d0f04f2545

"While exiled on the island of Patmos, the apostle John experienced a grand vision that would not be fully understood until Left Behind: A Novel of the Earth's Last Days was published in 1995. But before John describes events that eventually took place in 2012 he relays a message to seven ancient churches that have been lost to history.

Ever wonder what denomination those churches were? Read on to find out!
1) Ephesus

Really good at discerning truth from error but no love - Your annoying Calvinist friends.

2) Smyrna

Rich in good works, enduring trials - Definitely not any church in America. Must be the underground Chinese church.

3) Pergamos

Tolerates sexual immorality and idols but is still technically Christian - Episcopalians

4) Thyatira

Tolerates Jezebel but has a few loyal Christ-followers remaining - Southern Baptists

5) Sardis

Technically alive but appear to be dead - Presbyterians

6) Philadelphia

Described as having "little strength" but has slow, patient endurance - Those skinny-armed Missouri Lutherans who really need to hit the gym

7) Laodicea

Lukewarm, poor, blind, and naked - We're tempted to say this is Joel Osteen's church but honestly, it's all of us. REPENT.

For the record...

I do not believe God prefers any particular sect or denomination. I believe God has a place for each of us which is right for us as individuals. I can't say I know people who are saved from all denominations mostly because I don't ask folks where they go to church.

Imo, a particular denomination is like a country in that 'It is not the will of God that any should perish but that all should come unto repentance.' I don't remember where that is but when I seek God's will that verse is always in my mind.

Knowing that His will is for all to be saved it is obvious that He doesn't favor America over Russia, France, Brazil, Australia or Egypt. Why then would He not choose those He calls from all Christian denominations and religions?

At one time in my spiritual youth and because I knew God wanted me to worship and serve in a particular Southern Baptist Church I believe Southern Baptist was the 'right,' place for everyone. That was foolish knowing that when Christ ascended He allowed for persecution to disperse the believers and spread the Gospel to many nations and peoples.

Humans always seem to screw things up lol. I agree that a problematic stance is that "God is only talking to me" or "This is the only right way" because of course, how can one possibly know?

But humans will inevitably fall into arrogance which leads to entire churches splitting over things like "leavened or unleavened bread" for communion or "bloodline or not" for control of the church.

People have the infinite capacity to find ways to get into conflict with each other over not only petty things, but also things they may have an incomplete understanding of.

I suppose it's just human nature.
