Earlier today, I was surprised to see a TNet poster reference TigerNet as “a toxic cesspool.” This poster went on to describe a culture of extreme negativity on TNet. This poster also described other TNetters in rather deplorable terms. The irony of this post was astounding!
Personally, I enjoy TNet for multiple reasons. I appreciate the information and insights on Clemson sports that I find on TigerNet. I also appreciate the interactions with Clemson fans. I find many posts insightful. I find many posts humorous. Either way, I always enjoy the site.
That is what I believe TNet was intended to be: A place where Clemson information is reported and a place where Clemson fans can congregate to discuss the greatest University ever created (that’s Clemson in case anyone is wondering).
As TNetters, our opinions do not always agree - but disagreements do not give TNet a negative culture. Instead, differing opinions only add to the fun. If we all shared the same exact thoughts, there would not be much need for an open forum like this one in the first place. But our disagreements ultimately stem from our shared love for Clemson and our shared desire to see Clemson reach the excellence it is capable of reaching.
I always appreciate the disagreements when they are respectful in tone and intent. Calling TNet a “toxic cesspool” and calling other TNetters deplorable names is neither.
Like so many things in life, sometimes we fail to recognize and appreciate what we have!

I find a lot of humor on here and virtual camaraderie with like minded Clemson folks. I enjoy the good natured jabs and jokes. I agree with your points.
Sometimes the religious and political discussions get a little too heated and personal, but I can choose to interact or not.
At the end of the day, I take more from alcohol and TNet than either has taken from me. Apologies to Sir Winston Churchill and Coach Howard. Now give 110% or stay off my TNet. Go Tigers.

“If you’re going through hell, keep going” is definitely another of my favorite Churchill quotes!
That quote actually offers some wisdom - and encouragement - when going through trials. It provides a reminder that the answer is just to keep going (i.e., don't stop or give up). Every step forward helps!

Great post CBProf. It only takes reading about really good things like the new contracts and or extensions for football coaches and staff to realize what a special place Clemson is. Appreciation is a word that is on the verge of extinction and that is sad thing.

Certainly more good than bad. Like all forums, there will be some parts that aren't so good. That's just life.
What has disappointed me so much is the discovery that there are 2 factions of Clemson "fans" who seem more interested in warring with each other than supporting the Tigers. One group supports all things Dabo & football and dislikes Brownell and basketball. The other group supports all things Brownell and basketball and dislikes Dabo and football. These 2 groups frequently denigrate the other coach/team as a way to get a leg up in arguments with each other. They gloat at the other team's failures, and they use their team's successes to take shots at the other faction.
This has created a very cynical and negative culture within a large part of the football and basketball fanbases. Sometimes it irritates me so much that I don't even want to come on this site despite all of the good and informative posts. To me, one of the greatest things about Clemson athletics is the wide variety of sports and athletes to appreciate. They all offer something different, and yet they all work together as part of something greater.
Now I'm no "sunshine pumper," and I don't like when people try to ignore the negative parts of a situation in sports because they don't like it. I think that paints an inaccurate picture of reality, and I prefer when people call it like they see it. But there is a balance between acknowledging shortcomings/offering objective criticism and being overly nihilistic or even almost celebratory about bad things. If you're a Clemson football fan, the basketball team losing shouldn't make you happy. If you're a Clemson basketball fan, the football team losing shouldn't make you happy.
When you see so many cynical people in the fanbase who are just "waiting for the other shoe to drop," or for something bad to happen, it really dampens the mood of the entire culture, and it may even have broader-reaching negative effects than we realize. Anyways, I'll get off my soap box. People may not like my take on this, and I accept that. I just wish people could realize that we're all supposed to be cheering for the same team here, literally. Even if we don't always agree.

I just want to see all Clemson sports succeed and have soccer and football level success. We have the money to compete. We put most of our eggs in the football basket. I’d like to see balance before my time is up.

I agree. But, we all get excited. Too excited sometimes. My story is about Kevin Steele. I came unglued on here after the West Virginia game. My pulse dropped to the 20’s. Its been a while now and I’ve learned a lot.

Kevin Steele could make anybody’s pulse drop. I do think the man was on some type medication, or should have been, because he lost it for a while when he was here.

the dorms...especially the tin cans...and experienced hall discussions, arguments, etc. about Clemson sports.
I've commented previously that (to me) T-Net reminds me of my four years in the tin cans, for after ball games regardless of the sport a crowd typically gathered for a hellll-raising jam session of critique rife with yelling, swearing, accusing, threatening, often-enough with everyone fired from President Edwards on down to team staff members. And we had a great time doing so despite the verbage.
I wouldn't have renewed my membership all these years were this site a goody two shoes type, as I like the to and fro. I, also, consider most all the participants as friends, even the lurkers from other schools. Adopting an extremely negative attitude toward the site or its participants is self-defeating, making me think maybe the person should lay off a while.
Great post on your part and thanks!

T Netters fail to recognize and appreciate the men's basketball program. Always have. Always will. If the Tigers lose to Duke today, T Netters will panic and immediately start talking about firing Coach Brownell. Look what is happening to softball. Lost two games and T Netters are ready to run Rittman out of town. T Net is a toxic cesspool of negativity. Prove me wrong.

Some Tneters are very toxic. I believe they are a very small, but toxic minority, but that kind of gives us a reason to rally around the positives. And we do have lots of positives.

This thread has a mix of even keeled folks expressing thoughts in a good way. I honestly see only one being dramatically negative about the site and its contributors. At least for me, that constitutes proof that the site is no cesspool.
No question that folks become upset and even over the top in their frustration. Yours truly has.. and was apologetic afterward.

Great Post!!! While I don’t like posts that constantly dwell on the few negatives we experience, I do recognize that we still have work to do in trying to succeed in all our endeavors. That said, I’m not about to quit pulling for Clemson. I ain’t (and I know that’s terrible grammar ) quitting being a fan and pulling for us all the time in every sport. I think one of the great things we do at the end of games is all sing our Alma Mater together, win lose or draw. Go Tigers, and do beat the Dukies!

For me, I have been a member for years but have only post a couple of times if that. I hate that if you disagree with someone/something then you are immediately labeled a coot. I agree, tigernet should be a place for fans to talk about the school, sports and all other aspects of this great university, but it’s hard to have a normal conversation and debate such topics being labeled a coot right off the bat. I personally have not been called a coot, but seen it way too many times on here and don’t normally post topics or even comment on threads because of it. Might as well be back in middle school, where obviously these people that call Clemson fans coots have peaked.
