Anyone viewing those Orange Bowl stats in a vacuum would have assumed that Clemson dominated Tennessee.
Stats can be deceiving.
Score points!!

I ask, "what did Tennessee do"?

They has one extended drive all night. ONE.
They also had 2 broken coverage, long passes for TDs and another broken coverage pass leading to a very short, couple yard TD. Three long passes resulting in TDs. Three broken coverages.
They didn't miss 3 FGs. They didnt have 500 yards of offense. They didnt have a gazillion yards and 30-something first downs. They didn't dominate time of possession. They didn't spend all night on our side of the fileld. And they didn't really do much of anything to force our redzone failures.
So yeah, the stats show we had a nice offense and we held them in check, except for three long passes.
Score on just a few of those redzone possessions, and it's a totally different game. And the thing is, we're top 5 in the country in redzone conversion rate, even after that game. Go figure.
Biggest issues of the game were, in order:
1. (Mostly) Unforced errors in the redzone.. (US)
2. Three broken coverages, leading to three TDs.. (US)
So other than what's been mentioned, what did UT do exactly?

I understand and agree with everything you say … but this thread is about where Clemson’s offense might end up ranked statistically in the coming season.
My point is that statistics are deceiving and the Orange Bowl was a prime example.
Statistically, Clemson dominated Tennessee in pretty much every category. But in reality, Clemson was soundly defeated on the scoreboard.

As much as it sucks to say that, they won the game and did so by a substantial margin. Whether it was self inflicted wounds or not, Clemson lost the game. That loss directly or indirectly led to a change at offensive coordinator. Hopefully this coordinator change has the same effect that the d coordinator change had after the bowl game debacle against WVU.

Facts. Tennesse was not dominating Clemson by any means. It was a 7 point game in the late 3rd or early 4th and then the secondary got burned.
Just score one TD, or even make 3 of those field goals and its a totally different game leading into the 4th.

But we will have more turnovers...they happen when you play all out and with abandon!

Being year 1, anywhere in the “30’s” would be great. If we crack into the 2’0’s or less, look out!
