Since there seem to be a lot of firearms experts here...

I'm interested in getting a reasonable priced 9 mm semi-auto. Small enough to carry in cargo pants, but a large enough grip for my big hands. Really don't want to pay much more than $6-700. What do you suggest I look at?

Sig P365 is small enough for pocket carry. If you want bigger I’d look at Glocks.

Several good replies. I carry a Glock 42 or Walther CCP. THE CCP might fit your hand better since its a little larger. As far as no safety on the Glock (external ,pulling the trigger defeats two internal safeties. If you don't grab the trigger and pull it in your pocket its not a problem. Others mentioned also have no external safety.

Check out a Khar, several great models for pocket carry.
Small, sleek, slim, reliable. Does not jam….
Use +P hollow point ammo. Knock-down power like bigger guns.
A single stack hand full when you need it!

Love Glocks, not for pocket carry.

The Shield may be too big for your liking but it is a very easy gun with a palm safety for added protection from accidents. It also has a sissy reload clip, which I like.

The Beretta Storm compact may fit your hand better. It is a quality pistol. Made in Tennesee I believe.

In most big cities, always carry, or become a victim.
Better still, avoid big cities and just open carry a full sized pistol.
Or live in Clemson and don’t worry about it!

Just go handle some. Some just fit certain hands better than others. Glock g19 feels great in my hands but is a touch big. Smaller Glocks feel top heavy. I have a s&W m&p compact if I am carrying.

Have a look at the Tarus G3C. It’s my daily carry. Awesome gun for the price. Can be found almost everywhere for about $299. And it comes with 3 magazines new in box. Also, the G2C can be found online for as low as 250 brand new. Don’t let the price fool you. This is an excellent gun. Read and watch hundreds of reviews on it. I love my G3C. Shoots great. Never had a jam. Probably have about 600-700 rounds through it so far. It’s also customizable for those who like to get tactical. I also found a very nice ITWB holster on Amazon that is laser cut specifically for that gun for about $30.

The shield is a great gun too. However the G3C comes with extra magazine and is a double stack meaning more capacity. Also has a nice thumb safety. Some people like thumb safetys some don’t. I find it very useful to have. But I usually don’t engage it when I carry.

This thread is fun and sometimes funny reading.

I am not an expert but have carried a gun most days for the last 50 years.
If you carry for added courage, most guns will do.
If you carry a gun as a tool, better is to have it handy, not in a pocket.
Find a comfy holster that fits your needs. There are many types.
These days I use a minimalist inside the waistband one.

Can a smaller gun like a .380 meet your needs for a pocket gun? Some with plastic are very light these days. With something like Hornady CD you will be ahead of the game most play.

Many, many "real Hollywood heroes" have carried a PPK as well as real cops all over the globe. This is a well tested gun since 1935 and still being made because it works. It is not as light as some as the newer ones as it is now in stainless steel, a gun owners dream. It keeps increasing in value and will never wear out. It is accurate.

There is one pistol that meets the term effective "pocket gun".
It is the NAA 22 Magnum.

Most CCW folks start out OK but soon are leaving their clunky gun behind for a quick trip to the store.
This one can be kept with your car keys so easy to pocket, and it is a LOT better than nothing.

Real men are chuckling as they read this.
If going to a gun fight, I would take one of my short barrel shot guns with 00.
No strike that, I would skedaddle the opposite direction from a gun fight as I am sane.

99.9% of "gun fights" since the OK Corral that civilians have been in, only a couple rounds are fired. That indicates for most of us, many bullets are not needed. My short barrel 5 shot .38 S&W would win any encounter, if I hit the target.

The gun above will also win. A .22 mag fired from this gun is extremely loud, scary loud.
A Hornady 22 WMR 45 gr FTX will penetrate and expand.
If hit by one, you will loose interest in the fight and be calling for your Mama.

Of course if in a gun fight, one would want the baddest gun available, but it will be of no use if it is at home.
