School district has no virtual/remote learning options

Our kids now in quarantine from school after exposure at an outdoor play group with friends this weekend. Mind you, kids play during lunch recess with masks falling off but no quarantine needed.

Frustrating part is school has no virtual/remote online learning options while in quarantine. Unlike last year where everybody could jump on a zoom even after school opened up.

3rd grader up the street will now miss 3 out of 4 weeks of school due to quarantine rules and two separate exposures. Unbelievable lack of planning by the state and school district.

Richland County and City of Columbia have a bad attorney. School district has far better attorney.

I predict schools will win, and counties/cities will lose.

By the end of the week one in 5 students may not be in class in Lexington 1. Roughly 4,800 kids not at school, with parents dealing with it, with work not being done.

Does the mask mandate also exclude virtual learning?

Seems like those should be two separate items. If you're not forced to wear a mask at school, have a backup learning plan when you start forcing quarantines.

That's exactly what Lexington 1 did.

They even dedicated a day as a practice virtual day in school. Of course there's some other stuff in the budget I think that limits virtual learning to 5 days. One school week.

Lexington 1 is trying to stay open by quarantining classes, then grades, then schools before the entire district.

But I think when quarantined the teacher just sends home the work... Not really virtual learning... More like you're home sick. But if a school closes then virtual kicks in I think. We've had one or two schools go virtual.

The state legislature essentially forbade dual modality

instruction by legislating (rightfully so) that teachers engaged in this should be compensated for the extra work required.

The school districts have in turn blown their wads on backpack blowers for Lysol and done fuckall for increased wages to allow this type of instruction.

Higher ed is in the process of adding cameras, and other technologies for hybrid learning models. K-12 doesn't have the funds, or misspends them on other programs.
