Ron West: 'I was interested because I know UNC is going to win'

Ron West is more of a southeast guy.
North Carolina's new co-defensive coordinator / linebackers coach is returning to an area he knows well after spending his last two stops at Arizona State and Illinois.
In an interview with UNC's official site, West talked about why he decided to leave the Sun Devils and come back to the ACC.
"I've grew up in the southeast in Georgia, went to Clemson - played there and coached there for 10 years - so I've always been familiar with the ACC and North Carolina," West said. "I played in this stadium in 1977. We were tied 13-13 and North Carolina won the ACC. I've got teammates that I played at Clemson with that are all around this area.
"This is just an area I've always loved. I've been to Chapel Hill, I've recruited the state of North Carolina. I know how good North Carolina can be. When you hire a good person like Larry Fedora and you've got good people here, I knew what you had here.
"When they called, I was very interested in coming, because I know North Carolina is going to win. You can win an ACC championship here. It's been done before and it'll be done again. I knew this was a good place to come."
West has coached with several members of UNC's staff at previous stops, so there's a familiarity. As for his coaching style, West considers himself an old-school type.
"I've very intense," he said. "My background, I was coached by a very intense person, and I was raised that way. A lot of old-school values. You have to do things right, sit up in your chair, pay attention to detail every day. Very intense, and I want to get things done right."
