Rock bands with the MOST great songs

Since sports are over for three months I thought I’d bring up this topic. It’s really a struggle narrowing it down, there’s so many great rock bands with so many great songs. But I narrowed it down to three:
The Who Beatles Led Zeppelin
With threes three bands you can play them on Spotify and it’s just one great song after another four hours. Very hard to leave Pink Floyd off this list, but they had more concept albums than songs, so I excluded them
I welcome other opinions

I realize this is a personal opinion post so there are now ring answers and so for me it would need to be : Greatest Southern Gospel Groups: Gaither Vocal Band, Crabb Family, Cathedral Quartet.
Greatest Country: Tim Mcgraw, Garth Brooks , George Strait
Rock: The Eagles, The Beatles, Prince
oh Yeah ELVIS

311, Tool, and NIN. Now, you could argue that 311 never had the commercial success that Tool and NIN have had, but it's also my personal favorite band, so of course I think all of their songs are awesome, lol.

For me personally, I would make the analogy that Kiss is to great rock music, what a Yugo was to the automobile industry.

in that group vs any other.
Led Zeppelin would be 2nd on my list. Endless innovation, never boring.
The Eagles would be my third. All their records were uniformly good, not many "throwaway" tracks, until you get to the end.
Butt, there has to be a caveat. Pink Floyd would top my list for sheer genius at a given point in history. Dark Side of the Moon, Animals, Wish You Were Here, and The Wall has got to be as impressive a set of albums as any group ever put out back to back to back to back.
Rush fans probably point to their albums in the same manner.
While I do like some selected Metallica, Night Ranger, Guns 'n Roses, et al, I drifted over to modern country music during that time, and pretty much avoided the "Big Hair Band" era the first time around.
(Gotta admit, the Twisted Sister video for "We're not gonna Take It" is pretty darn funny, though.)
Addendum: The Rolling Stones have amassed a huge quantity of hits, just from longevity. I usually found myself disappointed with their albums, which were a couple or three good songs, plus totally forgettable garbaagee.

Fans of Led Zeppelin generally hate The Who and vice versa. I don’t care for The Who at all, personally, and I think they are highly overrated. The Eagles were always too mellow for my taste, but to each their own and my wife loves them. Aerosmith was a great 70s band, but sold out to pop later on.

I agree with your assessment. I’m a pretty big fan of The Who and really never got into Zeppelin at all. To answer the original question, it’s hard to top The Stones and Aerosmith just because of the longevity.

Stones have been around a long time, so ya gotta include them. I like the Eagles music even better, and they have been around, so they are up there. Boston may not have as many, but a huge % of their songs are awesome.
U2 has crazy good music and crazy good lyrics, so they are #2.
And for #1.... Some will hate this and some will love it; I gotta say Rush has an insane amount of crazy good songs. They are my top in terms of f'ing awesome songs that makes 8992 stop and sing along.

The Beatles if they are considered a rock band. They played the Beatles top 100 hits on XM radio while I was driving earlier today. I knew every song and I am not even a huge Beatles fan.

Between the DLR and SH years, loads of great music. Some of the tracks that weren't singles were the best songs on the albums. From their first album to For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge - very few duds. Loads of great rock - heavy, pop rock, some blues rock, and even a little acoustic.
On the lighter side, Fleetwood Mac was loaded, from the Bob Welch days until the end of the Stevie Nicks/Lindsay Buckingham days.

I’m going to contribute in the way that you requested. Not list my favorite band like most people. I saw one person listed Marshall Tucker. Don’t get me wrong, I love Marshall Tucker. But that’s the exact opposite of what you were asking for. Even the Atlanta rhythm section has more hits than Marshall Tucker and most people have never heard of the Atlanta rhythm section.
Lots of people have obviously said the Eagles, Van Halen, BillyJoel, and others but I haven’t read the thread In over 24 hours so hopefully these aren’t duplicates.
Hall & Oates Kool and the Gang Bob Marley The Cars Steely Dan James Brown Smokey Robinson Michael Jackson Fleetwood Mac Elton John Red hot chili peppers ABBA The Little River Band The Bee Gees
This band may be controversial for this list but their first four albums were massively successful and even their fifth and sixth albums had major hits. If you lived in Johnstone in the late 70s through the 80s you could not walk down the hall without hearing these guys and they are one of my favorite bands and Lou Graham is one of the all-time great rock vocalists.

I read it differently...GREAT SONGS, not HITS

I took it as, which bands could I listen to for hours on end and not worry that I would run out of great material. Obviously, a lot of it is based on individual taste, but there a lot of acts who generated a number of hits that I couldn't listen to for more than an hour (Prince, AC/DC, KISS). There are a bunch more who had a large number of hits, and non-hits that I loved, but they don't quite elevate to the level that I feel like the OP is looking for. I would put Boston, Genesis, The Police, Queen, Rush, Pink Floyd and David Bowie in this category. Just my $.02.

He did say great songs not hits. But I think great songs and hits tend to go hand-in-hand. Almost all of the bands listed had a lot of great songs and a lot of hits. But it was obvious that a bunch of people were simply listing their favorite band. That was really more of what I was responding to. I mean let’s be honest, ARS and Marshall Tucker are killer Southern rock bands, but they don’t have a lot of hits. And I don’t think they have a lot of great songs either. Although I think ARS has a better catalog than Marshall Tucker.
You mentioned the police. They are my favorite band. My top three are the police, Led Zeppelin, and the Beatles. After that Steely Dan, Rush, Boston, foreigner, Kansas, and I mean probably another 30 bands. But my top three is never going to change. I didn’t list the police because although I think all five of their albums are great and I love every song by the police, I don’t think most people would think they have a lot of great songs. Not the average person. Anyone that really knows music understands how unique and how great the police were. But the average music fan would probably never in a million years add the police to that list.
I think you and I both put together a strong list. I think we mentioned bands that have a lot of hits but also a lot of really great songs.
I saw a couple of people mention the Moody blues. If we’re talking a lot of great songs and killer albums that would be one high on my list as well!

The Beatles were a boy band and pop music. Zeppelin dwarfed the Who with their encyclopedia of hits-Led Zeppelin by a mile, even over the Stones-

I have loved Jimmy Buffett music since the early 70's. You just cant beat some Buffett music on a nice sunny spring day or if your anywhere around water. "Forget that blind ambition, and learn to trust your intuition"
