Rivalry... a little persepctive

When you look at the overall series records, consider these other problems which helped to contribute to our past troubles:

When the insane Ben Tillman came within a whisker of closing the school (and The Citadel), he had a special state tax created where all the money was sent to Clempson to improve the school and make it stronger and was set up as a military school, too. USC barely had enough money to stay operating and enrollment dropped to 62 students.

So in the first many years, Clempson was thriving, while USC was barely keeping its doors open. Strong advantage for Clempson.

Another dip came when we found we needed to leave the ACC (cowardly Clempson was suppose to drop out on the same day as us, but stabbed us in the back and did not follow through with their promise). As an independent, while we had a good team here and there and some good players, now and then, it was more difficult to recruit a kid when there were no potential conference championships for them to contend. Advantage Clempson.

One of our better coaches in those years was Coach Joe, of course. Some of our younger fans may not realize, but we were putting together a very nice recruiting class together when Morrison died the day before National Signing Day. When word got out, we lost almost all of our top recruits, It was almost like losing a year in recruiting and it really set our program back.

Although we did join the SEC in the early 1990's we were on a downhill slide under Sparky Woods and were in no condition to compete on an equal footing with most SEC teams as we were still playing with kids recruited here while we were Independent. We follow Woods up with Brad Scott. A decent recruiter, but a horrible coach. He led us into our worst stretch in history, the start of our 21 game losing streak which finished under Lou Holtz. Scott hurt our program so much, he was almost like our getting the Death Penalty. Strong advantage Clempson.

Holtz eventually brought us a glimpse of hope, but he did not want to coach any longer and lost his team, at the end. Even the hire of SOS, who brought us to this point, our best era of football, did not realize the scope of the problems he faced and admitted he almost walked away after having so much difficulty of changing our culture. Thank God he stayed.

Whenever he does call it quits, while I am not a fan of statues of coaches or players, the first thing Ray Tanner should do is name the field after him.
Williams-Brice, home of Steve Spurrier Field. It is the least "USC" can do for him.

what about how the series was held is columbia for the first 60 years of the rivalry, and how y'all left the ACC so you could admit athletes with a lower gpa. Being independent was as bad as it is now there were a good number of quality teams that were independent in the 70's and 80's so you really can't use that as an excuse

We have more National Championships than you have SEC Championships. I could care less about Carolina and your 5 wins. 2 of those 5 games we beat ourselves, but your streak will not last forever and then you will return to your original state. A Chicken with lips.

yall just need to get over this "we dominated you" history bs. were in the SEC and now we dominate this state with top in-state recruits. as long as dabo is your head coach, you will always under-achieve against your arch rival. a lot of you believe that USC will go back to losing after Spurrier leaves. that man has stated numerous times that he will make sure that a replacement will be better than him. now with the SEC Network... even more money will be coming in. clemson will have to make some drastic changes to compete against us or any other top SEC team. it's reality folks. the gamecocks above .500 are here to stay. keep supporting that insurance salesman if you want.

it would help their recruiting. The ACC had higher academic standards than the NCAA at the time. The year after the coots left, the NCAA set academic standards that were the same as the ACC.

Joe Morrison died when he was on his way out to the NFL, The New York Giants, amidst a steroid scandal.

Brad Scott was coach when the coots won their 1st Bowl game in the the program's history 1994, with Sparky Wood's players.

SOS had his glory years at Florida, not USuC, but he is still the best coach you have had.

USuC has only 1 Conference Championship, ACC 1969 in 19 seasons as a member, and has only COMPETED for 1 SEC Championship as a member for 22 seasons.

I love history.

As for Ben Tillman... the man died in 1918. HUGE advantage for Clemson in the pre helmet era.LOL.

Oh yea you forgot about WWII, When so many Clemson boys were not in school fighting for our country. Advantage USuC, wouldn't you say?

why? because, listening to clempson fans bragging about going to a bcs bowl(which they dont belong)and they only got an invite because of the 2 team per conference rule is flat out pathetic.trust me, us gamecocks are not jealous because we didnt make it to a bcs bowl. in the SEC only 2 things matter. SEc champ game and BCS champ game. we dont give each other reach arounds and cooo over losing to our rivals. we get better and look forward to next season. ftr, ive been lurking here for a while. the fan base sux. if i had to wear purple and orange, im sure i would suck to.

you have the brain function of a small child. You hang out on a rival message board and let it make you more and more angry as the days go on.
If all you care about in the SEC is the SECCG and BCSCG, then you have to say that SoCar has been one gigantic failure. Never sniffed either one of those. Absolute, total failure.
