Raleigh newspaper asks when will a Nc team be ready

The Raleigh insider had an article that I was reading and they were discussing how it is starting to look like Doeran has taken them as far as they can go and is it time to move onto the next, even though they’re very thankful for what he has done and stepping the program up. I ask, is it wrong that I take a little bit of glee in the fact that that arrogant numb skull might be at the end of his line for smoking his big cigars. The paper spoke very much about the way a top level SEC team showed that somebody who claimed to be a mid to top level ACC team is not even on the same playing field as a mid/top tier Sec team.

SEC is all hype. You got 1 great team and 3 or 4 good teams. The rest are just like any other conference. The media wants you to believe how great they are because they beat each other just like every other conference. Let the hype build so it will be even funnier when they fall.

I gaurentee if you went 1v1, 2v2, etc ACC vs SEC it would not go well for the ACC. People throwing out records against the SEC for ACC teams the last few years like to omit that it’s our mid/upper teams against the dregs of the conference for the most part. The ACC is weak and we need to get out. The same matchup scheme between the SEC vs Big10 I think would be more even.
At least with the new playoff format more teams will get to finally settle it on the field

And this weekend, we'll see how #24 BC stacks up against Missouri and see if Wake can hold their own against Ole Miss. I hope they are both competitive games.

more than the program it's always been for one main reason: the giant mammoth roaming the state of North Carolina called the University of North Carolina.
Look at the rivalry on Wikipedia, and surprisingly, it kind of reminds of ours against South Carolina. Additionally, both schools are lumped under a combined system, which has made me think UNC will always have the highest priority, moneywise. NC State just never had a Pitchfork Ben to go to war on their behalf.
Oddly enough, State is a land-grant institution, established much in the same vein as Clemson, so it's interesting how both programs have fared differently. Hence, while they may get rid of Coach D, I'm not convinced a different one will do much better.

How NC State’s embarrassing loss underscores North Carolina’s college football futility BY ANDREW CARTER SEPTEMBER 09, 2024 5:00 AM N.C. State head coach Dave Doeren walks away after congratulating Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel after Tennessee’s 51-10 victory over N.C. State in the Duke’s Mayo Classic at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C., Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024. ETHAN HYMAN ehyman@newsobserver.com

Other than Holtz and Sheridan, the Wolfpack hasn't had a coach above .500 in the modern era. Holtz was there 3 years before bolting, Sheridan 6. This is Doeren's 11th year and he's just below .500. This had been a mediocre program on a good day. When Amato got there, they were so far behind in facilities it was a joke.
They Wolfpack fans and alum that I know have grown impatient. They also realize it's an uphill battle. Which is why he's still there. They thought the "hump" to get over was beating us. Once that happened, they forgot that they had to beat everyone else too. The game against Western Carolina didn't do him any favors.

If you watch pro football games, the announcers continually hype SEC teams when announcing what school a player is from. Alabama, UGA, and LSU is about all you hear. They did mention Michigan, of course last night. All of sports media slobber about the SEC and, the above poster is right, they are not any different than any other conference with the exception that their stadiums hold more people. Just like the media in politics, they are unbelievably biased.

I work with a lot of engineers from NCst...I hope they get left in the cold like Oregon and Washington St.
Terrible fan base. I kept all my night before Tiger gear on and walked...I mean swam around uptown Sunday morning in all those Wolffy tears. Huge smile on my face and they couldn't look me in the eyes

Not an easy question to answer.
Is DD the only issue or are there other issues which need to be addressed noting that cycling through coaches is typically not the answer unless the current coach loses the program.
If you fire DD, who could they hire which would be an improvement assuming nothing else changes?
If the next coach has success, would they bolt at the first good offer noting Nancy St is not a destination job?
While I not a DD fan, he seems to match pretty well with their fan base.

Doeren has been as successful there as any coach could be.
Only way they become more successful is by increasing the talent level significantly and I don't see that happening.

which the Carolinas split the two camps. To the north in NC, Virginia, Kentucky, Maryland, etc is the basketball heartland of the South. To the South in SC, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana is the college football heartland of the South. Clemson is clearly football hugging the border with Georgia with a great century long tradition icluding Heisman, Howard, Ford, and Dabo. When I think NC State it is Coach V and NC State basketball.

They are not football schools. Plain and simple. Basketball or bust at the NC Universities.

One of the other factors is Mack Brown. He's out recruiting them. Not that he does a lot with them once they're there. If the Heels go belly up on football and get rid of Mack, NC State will reap the benefits of that in-state. We used to raid NC like mad years ago. Maybe we still do, I don't follow recruiting that much. If you're a great player in NC, where ya gonna go?

NC State is a well rounded athletics school. But football is where they've just hit their ceiling. They'll never be more than a perennial mid-tier team, that's what they've always been. Their best season in the last 30 years is an 11-3 year back in 2002. They have one ACC Championship under their belt and that was from 1979 I believe. They're not destined for anything except average unfortunately for them. This is just one reason why they're called the Coots of the ACC.

I would say Dave D is a good comparison to Tommy B performance wise. Can't win the big game 80% of the time but usually have a winning overall record. State obviously is not Clemson so they should be more tolerant. Obviously we were also WAY to tolerant of Bowden's average results and should have cut ties two or three years prior.

The NC ACC schools suffer in football what we suffer in basketball. Hard to ditch the NON label.
