Question about kicking game (FG and XPT)

I noticed this a couple of weeks agobut didn't post it then.

The protection on palce kicks is bad. I'm not trying to minimize that. But, it appears to me the kickd do not have as high a trajectory as other kickers.

Last night I watched the replay of both missed kicks. On the second oen there was a clear breakdown in protection. But, on the first one it looked like the penetration wasn't horrible. Just looked like the kick came off low.

And, I've noticed that even on the kicks made the trajectory is low. I've watched the kicks from the endzone camera and it looks like they hit the net lower than most other kickers.

I'm not expert. Has anybody else noticed that, or am I just crazy?

I noticed the longer one coming out low for sure.

FSU exposed a weak link in the line and Louisville learned and executed perfectly… on one of them for sure. I do agree that low ball was bound to get blocked regardless of bad protection.

TBF, the 50-yard attempt had to be kicked a little lower for distance***

Bret, as an old player who did some kicking back in the day, I can tell you that a longer FG attempt must be kicked at a slightly lower trajectory to attain the distance needed, unless you have a bionic leg. Shorter ones, not so much. The problem, as you stated, began in the FSU game when they exposed poor coaching and technique by the protection team which allows rushers to get inside of the outside protector. You just cannot do that, as any little league coach could explain. However, our outside protector continues to block "OUT" and let a man go right inside him to the launch spot. Also, #75 being dumped on his back on the first block, was just poor technique by a less talented player who should never have been on the field. Bad coaching and less talent leads to fundamental errors. So many games are lost on special teams by coaches who want to get that hard working kid with little or no talent some playing time. Noble in concept but destructive in results.

because all these kickers go to camps where they are all trying to out do each other for the longest kick. They don't give a #### about accuracy anymore. but hey! He can kick it 60 yards! who cares if it gets blocked from time to time.

Trajectory is too low for the protection offered by our line and the timing from ball being spotted to kick is slower than most allowing more time for defenses to make penetration.

Both issues need to be improved immediately or other teams are going to continue to exploit this weakness.

I believe all four kicks have been blocked behind the line of scrimmage. The two blocked on Saturday were blocked behind the line of scrimmage. Embarrassing line play. When a kick gets blocked at the line of scrimmage, we can start looking at the kicker.

Bret, check out my film breakdown on this post for the Louisville and FSU game with video.

I broke down the blocks vs Louisville at the beginning. I posted a team meeting of the Bengals on correct FG/XP blocking technique in the middle, and towards the end I posted about some FG in the FSU game.

Just like Shakira says.... the film and the hips don't lie.
