Mickey,

I know Clemson is just as talented passing as they are running the ball, but in the few games where the

1st question was specifically about the inside run

Nov 1, 2018, 10:04 AM

Not the run game in general. We continually ran the ball up the gut when they had 2 DT’s in who were 350+ that we proved we couldn’t move instead of trying to run off tackle or the counter which we had our most success with.

I get taking what the defense gives you but is anyone surprised trying to run inside with 2 backup DL against a combined 700 lb interior DL didn’t work? That’s the issue I have with the playcalling.

Dabo clearly addressed earlier in the week that ETN missed his hole or hit too fast on the first two runs of the game and it cost the offense good yardage. Maybe the inside run was there and we just didn't execute the plays that were called.

We ran it inside far more than the first 2 plays

And it was continuously stuffed. The success we had came almost exclusively on the outside. Yes #9 forced it a few times but he was also running into a wall of flabby beef most of the game.

I don't want to go back and forth with you. I just wanted to point out that it is easy for fans to blame coaching or playcalling when sometimes it is the players who are the problem.

I am also not foolish enough to believe that every play call is the right one just because we win and score a lot of points. I do believe though that each play is part of a game within the game. Sometimes plays need to be called that may not work beautifully to keep a defense honest or to set up another play off of it. If we abandon the middle of the field with the run game, it's just like abandoning the middle of the field in the passing game. It makes it easier for the defense to plan to stop what you are doing. Giving away a few plays to keep a defense honest is ok with me as long as the offense is still moving the ball well overall.

It’s also easy for fans to not question anything they’re told apparently. There’s a big difference between running inside a couple times knowing it’s not likely to work to keep the defense honest and relying mainly on the inside zones rather than trying to get off tackle and get these fat DT’s moving side to side rather than running right into their teeth.

But my whole initial statement was about how the emailer in the article specifically asked about sticking with the inside run which I thought was a great question and the answer was about the running game as a whole and taking what the defense gives you and not anything about the strategy of sticking to inside zones rather than running outside which had more success against their undersized DE’s

it only says kicker but I think Potter is the place kicker for the next 3 years... could be a punter... #3 rated kicker

Pinion was drafted after 3 years... Punters are seldom ever drafted... the one from Syracuse will be!

I think it has been mentioned that he is coming to mainly punt.

Let Renfrow punt

Nov 1, 2018, 12:24 PM

Renfrow should be given a chance to punt. Spiers has been awful. When we need a 50 yard punt he consistently give us a 35 yard punt and when we are at midfield and need him to give us a 35 yard punt so our guys can down it around the 10 he booms one into the end zone.

Keep using the "rugby punt" ... it produced a turnover and

minimal return yards.

Harder to field cleanly and set up a return ... and easier to cover.

Having Renfro punt is intriguing, but it would be a shame to risk our "money" WR trying to make a tackle in punt coverage.
