Plyler on OC

Mickey thinks it’s going to be Streeter if Elliot leaves at OC. So promoting from within. I’d say he knows what he’s talking about considering he has sources from inside the program. This is disappointing to hear as I was looking forward to a fresh start on offense after the disaster of 2021.

Based upon what we saw from Street in the LSU debacle as well as developmental issues with DJU, I hope that's not the case.

It's hard to hold Ohio State against him with such short notice and basically taking over the game plan of someone else. I'm not saying he'll be great as OC but it's hard for me to use the Ohio State game as evidence of how he'd perform full time.

It's hard to hold Ohio State against him when we had 444 yards, QB threw for 400 yards and had 3 td and we scored 28 points. Streeter was not the problem in that game. Defense was.

Didn't they have they employ their own qb coaches in the off season? Plyler seems to be an extension of the staff, a press secretary if you will; I can hear it in his voice and his words as he vehemently defends moves like Streeter to OC before they happen. FTR, I hope it's not Streeter. He was OC at Richmond for a short time before he arrived. Would he have been hired by Clemson if he were not a former player here. I have my doubts.

I think you nailed it. Love Mickey, but he seems to obediently follow the narrative. Whatever it may be. And laughs at those when question things in any way. I just don’t see how recruits could be excited about Streeter or Conn. But TBH I’m not nearly as worried about the defense as I am the offense.

Lord knows I hope Dabo hasn’t fallen to that level of Coaching ideology. Steve Spurrier and Nick Saban need to have a come to Jesus with our Coach on the dangers of promoting from within. Promote once, you get away with it, to promote twice as he did after Scott left, the offense went down hill. You promote a third time, you better have an escape plan in place in case your offense starts out the same as it did this year, and an OC w/Staff ready to go, come in and quickly perform a miracle. Go get Joe Brady!, and quit fooling with this inside promoting crap. We need an OC!

Wake and Pitt drove the bus. I think we all know thats not close to where we should've been with the team we have. I'll also say 9-3 was overachieving which credit for that goes to Dabo and the defensive coaches/players who took ownership of November.

The more we look in disarray the less and less we'll get those Top 10 recruiting classes. 9 TDs in any entire season at the QB position is dreadful. If this offensive staff couldn't get more out of DJ than than then we gotta hope we're going outside the box for our offense next year. Because that ain't cutting it. SC State could've done better than that in the ACC.

Not only that, but also no other QBs on the roster who could help.

Phommachanh was never given any real opportunity in games, nor was the guy behind him (who was a walk-on).

It would seem that an elite program such as ours should have at least two QBs who can come in and run our offense with some modicum of success. It doesn’t speak very highly of our offensive coaches since we didn’t have that.

We've seen what happens 1-1/2 hours to the east (Cooterville) and 1-1/2 hours to the south (Dawg Town) when the OC is a revolving door. Go back to Cooterville!

The NCAA limits the number of coaches that can be on the road recruiting. If he doesn’t want to be on the road all the time, let him stay home and dream up brilliant offensive plays, while some of the other guys are out there. Then let him step in when needed to land the next DW4 or TL.

Plus Brady would likely only be a 1 or 2 year rental. Also, his name is so big because of the great year at LSU, but that's a lot of credit for one single season when you had the #1 overall pick at receiver, a 1st round pick at running back, two 1st round picks at receiver, and a 2nd round pick at receiver. That's especially a lot of credit when I believe he was just a CO-OC.

as "1" data point. I would say its 15 data points. 15-0 is pretty good. Does being a mediocre OC for 15 years better prepare you than 1 year doing it without blemish? I guess its a semantics thing but i'd choose a guy that proved he could put together a perfect season and put up ungodly numbers with QB that the year before was just a little better than mediocre. Rob Spence had alot of offensive experience before Clemson too..

Either way.. joe Brady probably ain't even thought of Clemson but the question was who's the no-brainer candidate out there.. and in general Joe Brady is on that list. But he's probably looking for a BAMA or a low level Head Coaching job.

I'll also add that I find it interesting how so many fans hate on Elliott and saying all the great offensive numbers we put up before this year were due to all the talent we had on offense, but then give someone like Brady so much credit for the one year at LSU when his offense was loaded with NFL talent. That one year btw is literally the only year Brady has been an OC in college. I know the NFL is a different animal but he lasted less than 2 years there before getting fired.

I think Brady and a number of others should AT THE VERY LEAST get a phone call/interview. I think it's doing the program a disservice to not "entertain" other options............if in the end Dabo decides Streeter for OC and Goodwin for DC then go for it, but to not even entertain/talk to/interview ALL OPTIONS is not serving your program.

btw.....I don't judge ANY COACH OR PLAYER on how they perform in the NFL.......it's a completely different game.

I'd take Tebow or vince young on my college team any day of the week, but never in the NFL

same can be said of the success comparison for saban, spurrier, etc....

Come on it was the NFL, and let’s be honest, in the NFL you gotta be a little bit more flexible with the play calling than you do in College. Plus, the speed of the NFL is faster, so you have to have the ability to engineer the development of your offensive schemes faster and develop faster on the field. College you’re more so teaching that at a much more easier pace. So for Joe Brady, yeah the NFL was a set back, but look at most Coach’s who go pro, hot in college and cold in NFL, but once back in College they are red hot again. I would definitely hire Joe Brady!

LSU was 10-3 in 2018. Burrow was 30th in total passing yards . LSu was undefeated and won a NC in 2019 . Burrow moved to #1 in total yards. Brady was NOT the OC in 2018 or 2019.

in 2019 LSU had 13 seniors and like 40 juniors. per Hillrocktiger:
NFL - starter at QB.
Two NFL caliber RB's.
5 NFL WR's including two who will likely be Pro-Bowlers along with the QB.
a NFL TE
All but one of the OL went to the NFL and are starters

but that was all Brady in your mind?

Wake forest almost won the conference this year and finished 12th in the Nation in total offense with a bunch of nobodies. Sam Hartman finished 7th in total yards. Are you not this passionate about Warren Ruggiero?

People knock Elliot because he needs a Lawrence or Watson.. What has Brady done without Brees and Burrow?

The North Carolina Panthers are 29th in total Offense under Brady... even worse than Detroit. When you hear any one say " ______ is worse than Detroit;" it is usually a bad thing.

Don't know Joe Brady or have any strong opinion. At or near the end of the NFL season there will be multiple teams near the bottom that will have sweeping overhauls and with lots of quality coaches fired just because their in the wrong place at the wrong time. Could we possibly just evaluate this group of high level coaches to see if anyone out of the group might be a fit and bring some new ideas into the program? As a fallback we can get almost any up and comer within reason out of D1. Take all those candidates and compare them to what we have in house. Choose the best candidate. There's no hurry, we need him sometime before spring practice as Dabo can handle this recruiting class and we have interim guys for a meaningless bowl. Go Tigers.
