I can't make up my mind on whether I am mad about this, or jealous...

For $20,000,000 NCAA should make him pay tuition

That's what collegiate football has degenerated to. Buying a trophy.

So what’s your point? A team is savvy and wealthy enough to take advantage of the rules in place. Are you jealous or just a bitter person because we can’t compete at that level? Please explain all the buhtt-hurt around here.

We can compete, we have just chosen not to.

It’s incredibly frustrating.

Good for Ohio State, doing what it takes in this new era of college football.

Wouldn't it be much easier to just accept where college sports are today. Continuing to stick your head in the sand is not healthy.

Lay out the dough, and don’t forget to remove all academic requirements.

The Clemson Tigers are a PRO team now.

It is impossible to run two (2) PRO sports teams from the same budget.

Ohio State has done well in the NIL/transfer portal era. But most of their money was spent on player retention. No one knows exact numbers, but I would guess 80-90 % of Ohio State’s NIL this year went to players already on the team. Downs was a player that probably got the big bucks when he decided to transfer. He was considered a slight Ohio State lean during his recruitment. But he ultimately chose Bama. Judkins has been pretty amazing. Howard has definitely had his time to shine too. But Judkins and Howard were probably not people who broke the bank to come to Ohio State. I see a lot of comments here about wanting Clemson to use the portal. However, when another team utilizes the portal to shore up weak spots, it’s said that they bought the team.

We have gotten a few players from the transfer portal this year.

It’s been funny seeing the Dabo cult mostly go silent on their old talking points.

Previously, when we didn’t use the portal, it was because those players were attitude problems and quitters who weren’t good enough to start for us and who expected a payday from the highest bidder. Dabo was doing it “the right way” with morals and ethics.

Now that we are using the portal, I haven’t seen any of these posters saying those same things. It’s sad but predictable.

teams are spending. This could be closer to the 'norm' than we realize. How much did ND and Texas spend? Certainly, it's in the ballpark.

I mean, I wonder how much we had to fork over to achieve our high retention rate this year. Will these numbers ever get published? better yet, regulated? heh
