It's probably everywhere. Ever notice big economic superpowers never have their own variants? US, China, Russia, Germany, etc. If we find one, we will just sit back and wait until it shows up somewhere else, then reveal we have it too, when it started here. Everyone is scared of Omicron, so until everyone else has it, we're not going to admit we do (trade purposes). What went through LA last winter was a US variant, unique to US and probably the most infectious at the time. It had unique mutations that showed up a few months later in guess where? India. Yep. ;)

It is what it is. It's nothing new. First ever confirmed Spanish flu case was in Kansas. But we decided to name it when the Spanish media freaked out about it.

Not saying we germinated Omicron, that is definitely an Africa variant, but we will be one of the last to admit we have it. We have rising numbers anyway from Delta, so we have some padding in the data to buy some time. It's not hard to find. You can actually tell it with around 90% accuracy simply from PCR test results, without even having to sequence it. Take 100 PCR test results with the S gene marker dropped, that are otherwise positive, and around 90 will be Omicron. That deletion of the s-gene marker doesn't exist with delta.
