Notre Dame now has even fewer reasons to join a conference…

…. This move by the SEC gave ND more power and control over their destiny. Staying independent almost secures their place in the 12 team playoff. They’re the one (and probably only) school who doesn’t need the few million that would be added by joining. As long as the ACC allows them to keep their current deal, ND will not join a conference in my lifetime. Of course, I’m old, but still…… ??

there will not be a 12 team playoff. 8 at the most. can not see them shortening the regular season. would not be far to the other 100 teams. even dabo does not think it will be 12.

What is talked about isn't as important as

what Dabo, Nick, Saban and the other top coaches say and decide. These men believe a 12 team playoff without an equal reduction of regular season games would be detrimental too their player,s their coaches. A 12 team playoff and 121 game playoff ain't gonna happen. Period. Any of these NCAA or other proponents, media, pundits that say otherwise are wrong. Read what they are saying, NOT the media, is what will happen. 12 and 12 ain't it. Go Tigers!

It's always about the money. The ones that make the decisions are the ones that sign the multi billion dollar contracts. Doesn't matter what Nick and Dabo think if the wallets are getting fatter at the top.

Agree. Got to play hardball and call their bluff. Wish them good luck scheduling teams because the more conferences expand, the more conference games you have to schedule.

The ACC should not allow notre dame to do what it has done

First of all, the ACC should have never allowed notre dame to be a partial member. However, as soon as they dangled 5 ACC games on nbc, swofford and the gang took the bait.
Secondly, I felt that last year might have been the year to force notre dame to join for good. As it was, swofford and the gang saved their season instead.
Lastly, I certainly hope this new commissioner will take a tougher stance.

Cold hard fact. ACC needs ND more than ND needs ACC

Until that dynamic changes, they will remain an independent.

Dadgum, I thought we'd gotten along fine without Notre Dame for around 100 years just fine.
Screw Notre Dame. Always. I have heated those bastidges since the broke their word and bolted for the NBC contract.
I pray to God, we don't allow them in the ACC in ANY sports.
"Cold hard fact. ACC needs ND more than ND needs ACC", in your dreams. Go Tigers!

Allowing ND in for one season created one of the biggest

games in ACC history in ACCCG, #3 vs. #2. It was a great move.
It didn't save ND's season. They would have been in the playoff regardless. They may have played a few less games.

The only thing that would move them with an expanded playoff

is larger conference with more required conference games. If they can't build a good schedule, they will have trouble making the playoff.

Yep. Until conferences make it almost impossible to schedule ND or other big OOC games, ND will remain independent, which is fine by me.

Totally disagree
The most relevant they have been in decades was last season because of being in the ACC and playing Clemson.
If we did like I’m talking about and created a mega conference they would make more money and it would be better for them.
Everyone can see it but them because of their arrogance. They still think they dictate what happens, but they do not. They have a stunning lack of self-awareness of who they have become and the changing landscape.

The amount of misinformation in this string is staggering.
A larger SEC does not increase Notre Dame's chances of making an expanded CFP UNLESS there is a stipulation that conferences can only send X number of teams each.
It's not just "a few million" that Notre Dame would gain by joining a conference. It would be substantially more than the $15M they get now as the current deal would be re-negotiated with expanded members and TV markets.
Dabo does not "think there won't be a 12 team playoff". He's against it, but he didn't say it won't happen. In fact, it's exactly the opposite. He said it's "inevitable".
It's not "NCAA pundits" or "the media" touting a 12-team CFP. It's the CFP board and the conference commissioners, which are exactly the ones that have the power (along with TV execs) to make the change.
Notre Dame is already an ACC member in all sports other than football.
A larger conference would not mean more conference games are required annually.

I think the opposite, this is going to expand all conferences and that will give ND fewer scheduling opportunities. Who wants to add ND as their one or two out of conference games? ACC should squeeze them to get buy in...
