but in my opinion, Matt Luke is the best addition and possibly the best coach offensively.
Defensively, it's tough to replace what Venables did. Regardless of how well people do or don't think Wes is doing, he doesn't bring the same energy that Venables did, and it shows. We have the talent.

We have no where near the talent on D that we enjoyed in 2016 or 2018.

It will be awfully hard if not impossible to match the defense we had in the Power Ranger era. Even if we find kids with the same individual talent, it's hard to imagine creating that synergy again.

If you are comparing the talent to those teams you are just setting yourself up for disappointment. We have the talent to be better than what we are. It's about utilizing what you have. And we can win with what we have.
We may never have that talent again as the NIL era takes over.

Great coaches can take “theirs and beat yours yet also take yours and beat theirs “
It’s frustrating knowing that Dabo could have went out and hired 99% of the defensive coordinators in the country after BV left and didn’t even consider it.
Now he’s in that precarious situation of the guy he hired having not done a poor enough job to fire , yet knowing there’s a coordinator out there somewhere that could do for the defense what Luke has done with a bunch of guys some fans told us were being coached up by Austin to the best of their ability and it wasn’t coaching

And that's what has been so frustrating these last few years. The coaches do just enough to stick around longer than they should have been. There's not one position on this team this year that I would label as dominant. The O-line could easily take that spot next year with Coach Luke though. Every other position though? I'm skeptical.

BV didn’t fix the defense in 1 season, so I would expect it to be another year before Luke gets O-line to where it can hold its on against real opponents.
Again, it’s not on Wes . He took a job any assistant would have accepted. And he’s no moron and may one day be at the level to be a coordinator at a school like Clemson. However like Austin, I’d be shocked if any Power 5 teams would hire Wes as coordinator if he is let go.
Just odd that there wasn’t a legitimate search at that position or for that matter what other Power 5 teams would consider Spiers as a coach for punters
