1st round games will be your 4 neutral site bowl games.
2nd round games will be home games for the teams earning the BYE as a reward for being 1-4.

I would cut to 8 teams. And I agree with if they keep 12 teams make those first rounds at a neutral site (bowl/nfl site). I think the extra 3 to 4 weeks off hurts the teams. If they cut to 8 teams, they can eliminate the first round. It is taking way too long to finish this up. Put games so they don't interfere with portal dates. Also make second round on a weekend, not a weekday for one of games.

Well i have said the same thing since the last 4 in lost. But the bye teams lost also. Should we revert to 4 teams?

We should go back to 4 teams

But it’s obvious we can’t take the top 4. I guess all those that were on the outside looking in and complaining were right all along. 5-8 is all we need. 9-12 aren’t good enough and 1-4 haven’t been tested enough and are probably overrated anyway. 5-8 is just right, like Goldilocks

The more teams you cut, the more you play into the hands of the SEC. They’ll just get a higher percentage of slots and increase their chances of winning the championship. We all see what happens when the “new” SEC is forced to play its way through.

I don't like the bye for the top 4. It is actually a disadvantage...1) they miss out on an additional home game plus the revenue it brings to the community. 2) They only have a week to prepare for their first opponent. First rounders have 2-weeks to prepare.
IMO, they just need to go to 8 or 16 to eliminate the bye. Take all conference champions and however many at-large to complete the field. Conference championships should be the "first round" of the playoff. Traveling to multiple "bowl" destinations puts a major burden on the fan bases, so have all rounds at the home of the higher seeds. Imagine a title game in Clemson.
Then use the bowl games for a new BCS. In other words, if you don't make the playoff, you still get a chance to play in the Rose Bowl, or the Cotton or the Sugar, etc. There is no reason a national champions should win 2 major bowls on the way to the title game.

lets let this cycle a few years.. this was fun... if there was anything they need to fix is having the semi's the same weekend as the NFL doe Wild Card...
Playing on Thursday and Friday sucks... for everyone and it showed in the TV numbers, those same games on Saturday would be more in line with previous numbers...
The bye week teams did not seem to get an advantage
The home teams in the first round did appear to have an advantage, especially in the cold-crap weather locations... (but if these guys are going to play in the NFL they better get used to it).
Conference Champs did not seem to matter...
Teams came in and battled... won or lost on the field not on paper or some anlaysts opinion... in fact they look the fool at times...
I thought Clemson gave a great showing in a hostile Texas stadium... Mafah being hurt probably hurt us more than anyone let on... getting one yard when we needed it and getting their run game under control killed us...
ASU-Texas and Texas and Texas - Ohio State were some of the better games I have watched in a while...
Should be a fun Natty, get your popcorn ready

I would expand to 16 teams while eliminating conference championship

games. Let the regular season determine those. Too many games now - nuts. Outside of the SEC these are largely meaningless duds with minimal impact. Us and the ACC this season is an exception, which is rare. Besides, the CFP committee has already stated that losing won't be punished, and those not participating pretty much stay as is. So why waste the space.
So, go to 16 teams and move the first round up one week to the 2nd weekend of December instead of the 3rd - Thu/Fri/Sat affair with 8 hosts. The Army/Navy game could then move up a week to the 1st weekend.
Bowl Games: Announce the bowl lineups along with the CFP field. With the bowls, reserve 8 slots for first round CFP losers, which would be announced the Sunday after Round 1.

I think the hole games are good and alot of fun.. good thought about doing it the 2nd week.
It really comes down to money and what is the best way to maximize profit.

I say you go to a four team conference playoff and winners play it out.
