A few of you may recall that my 7 yo is a special needs child. This means that we don't get to experience watching our child grow up the same way that parents with "normal" children do.
Our son plays baseball at the Grand Strand Miracle League though. If you don't know what that is:
So anyway, a few months ago, former MLB player Reggie Sanders and former NFL player Andre Davis came to one of the games to show support.
My wife told me later (I was out of town), that after our son got his hit that he walked down to first base, where he promptly sat down and refused to go any further. Andre Davis came over and asked her if she minded if he picked up Drew and helped him around the bases. As she told me later, she was crying at how touched she was by that gesture, and how wonderful it was of them to actually want to participate in the event, and not just "make an appearance".
These are the Kid Stories we get to tell our friends and family, and I wouldn't change it for anything in the world.
