Mike Gundy on DII transfer Obi Ezeigbo stepping in for injured LB Collin Oliver vs. Arkansas:

“Do you want me to go back into coach talk or do you want the truth? He was very inexpensive. The number of players that we go after that were ready to play at this level, we can’t afford.”

This is the reality for many teams not named Texas.

IDK how I'd feel as a player hearing/reading that LOL

It's true though. High bidders can just come in and steal your best guys if they are dollar driven.

It comes down to exactly what I said it would a few years back. What used to be illegal for competitive reasons, buying players, is now the norm. It may take a few more years, but unless there are rule changes to maintain competitive balance vs a bidding war, you’ll be seeing the same handful of teams competing for titles and the rest just hanging on year after year.

to get better very quickly. And you can see it happening. The notre dames, the ohio states, the UGA's and the Bama's will all fork out big wad's of cash b/c their booster base is so large. such a dumm rule to implement without thoroughly safe guarding how its carried out. Thank you Gavin Newsom for ruining yet another thing. I know he's not in charge of the NCAA but his putting in bright lights and making a big deal of it through the media forced the the NCAA to just comply and ram it through. ITs gonna be really tough to regulate it now and who's gonna enforce the ruling? The NCAA doesn't want all those lawsuits. Its just effed now.

It is not only an auction, you basically have to tamper, then win the bidding

and the people who don't want to believe that are the same people who will also try to tell you that there is no such thing as "tampering" or if it is happening, it's not a clear NCAA violation that goes entirely unenforced.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

I guess T. Boone didn't leave OK state with enough money...

Should have set up a player salary system long before NIL and the supreme court case. College kids on a full ride don't need more than a 50k salary. Now you can't even get a back up holder to sign for that.

More coaches need to speak out like this.

Agreed. NCAA sat on their hands getting bad press until the courts decided it for them. I recommended, a scholarship (room, food, tuition), a modest $20K/year and a share of the gate/TV revenue for every game you dressed. It would be delivered upon the athlete getting their degree. This would have put the NCAA in a positive light of wanting the athlete to get an education. The can't miss NFL first rounders would have walked away from the the money at graduation but the players who had doubts, the ones that would need a degree most, would stick around another year and cash in the check.

Lugunbill said on the broadcast that poaching is a major issue. The few teams with lots of money to spend don’t realize they are contributing to the demise of college football. It’s always about right now. We can only hope smarter people will save it.

So many minds blown on this site…

Wait you mean you can’t just shop for starters??
Huh? No … actually you can’t … unless you’re willing to tamper and pay big bucks…

Lugenbill broke it down perfectly then they played a clip of Dabo succinctly explaining the reality of the portal..
Of course that interview was barely covered…

I suspect the big money schools will migrate to the BIG/SEC super conference and you'll see what may be a resurgence of DII type schools that recreate or remold the NCAA. I'd like to think that Clemson could fit in either one but find the wholesomeness of amateur football more appealing.

At least professional sports have a salary cap that brings some semblance of a level playing field to their sports. That does not exist in college.

At least that problem is solved ...

well ... unless you're a 3rd string long-snapper with zero NIL value. They will continue starving.

CFB is going to be the Yankees vs the Red Sox for the foreseeable future unless something changes. The 2-4 teams with $50 million annual NIL war chests will be competing for the championship and everyone else is also-rans.
