I've had the good, yet painful, fortune to have visited Pearl Harbor, Arlington Cemetery and the American Cemetery in Normandy...as well as Pointe du Hoc just down the road. (Suicidal mission!!)
My youngest son had visited all of those by the age of 13 which, I suspect, is not something many his age could say.
Lastly, Auschwitz-Birkenau...a VERY long day.
This day reminds me of the good so many tried to do...and the evil and despair inflicted upon so many innocent as well. All of these sites are clarion calls to not let the past repeat itself. Hopefully that call is heard such that those who gave all and sacrificed their innocence for all who followed is not in vain.
Lastly, for those who live today, yet have endured the horrors of war, you also are to be remembered and respected for carrying scars many of us can't even imagine. Bless you all.
