Mafah's speed

Phil Mafah is a beast. And he's got decent speed when he gets a step, but I think like a lot of power backs he needs a few yards to get ru.blig so to speak. like him on a toss and able to turn the corner and he can be be a workhorse. Give him some power or even a fullback, dude could eat. If the defense has any line penetrative he is going to struggle as he's more of a a one cut and go guy. More James Davis than CJ. So, who is this year's lightning to go with his thunder? Is it EZ? Haynes seemed a bit more similar to Mafah. And Adams is ok, but no one's ever gonna confuse him with Barry Sanders fo sho. Who brings the change of pace?

Jay Haynes is the "change of pace" running back to compliment Mafah......according to sports writers.

20mph don’t lie. Not many people going to walk that kind of speed down from behind. Mafah is Thunder with a side of lightning. I honestly was surprised to see him breaking 20mph. Eziomume is more Spiller like with pure speed at 10.8 second 100. I bet he would top 21-22mph on a break away. Haynes isn’t quite as fast turning in an 11.38 100. EZ just needs time to develop as Haynes has a full year on EZ. The great news is we have great depth in the rb room.

Breath of fresh air. Shipley had no breakaway speed. Always caught from behind.***

When he didn’t trip on the yard markers.

Did you see how easily Wesco caught up with Mafah? Wesco closed on Mafah and it looked like Wesco was walking in the park.

I saw that! Reminded me of Higgins doing that to ETN or Jacoby to Spiller. That only added to fact that he flew past that DB on the long ball. Wesco definitely has some wheels.

Haynes is def faster than Mafah and arguably the fastest running back… EZ looked very quick as well and running behind backup oline…..I can imagine those 2 running behind the first team oline would be a good surprise

there are 2 types of fast. Track fast and football fast.

C.J. and Jacoby were 2 of the few who could take it from the track to the football field and just be lightening fast. The woods are full of Carl Lewis and Usain Bolts who are track fast but would never transition to the football field. Then there are players who are not as gifted with the flat out track speed but are "Football Fast" and never seem to get caught from behind. Players like Earl Campbell. Phil Mafah is in the category. They seem to have whatever gear they need to get to the end zone. It is called Football Speed. Phil has it.

Mafah has gotten faster each year in the program. You can tell he puts in work. This also reflects well in regards to CJ developing players. I believe we will see Haynes emerge as the quicker complimentary back.
