and within hours, amazingly on the 50th anniversary of what they had done together..drafting & writing of The Declaration of Independence.
Jefferson died of prostate Cancer at age 83 & Adams of heart issue at age 90 while his Son Quincy was President.
Jefferson was only 23 when he wrote the Declaration..and Adams was the man who wrote to his wife on the 3rd of July that the citizens should forever celebrate with firecrackers, shots from cannons, parades, etc.
The medium age of death back then was about 45.

They became political adversaries after the Republic was formed. One vying for strong central government and the other vying for stronger states. But they did become very good friends and exchanged letters as they grew older.
I think it is recorded Adams said something like "Jefferson lives on" as he died.
John Adams miniseries is a most excellent watch. Highly recommend.

You are correct. Too bad we can't get back being able to disagree. In my lifetime we went from "I disagree and here is why", to "YOU ARE AN IDIOT, and although we've been friends for years you are dead to me."

They died within five hours of each other. Everyone should read the book "John Adams" by David McCullough. Adams was one of the most important people in the founding of our nation.
