Joel Klatt with an interesting observation about College vs. NFL head coaching

on Cowherd yesterday.
"If you find the right fit in college football where you're comfortable and you can win, even in the Big 12, you're going to make a lot more money in the long run and have a lot more power in the long run than going to the NFL. Because even if the NFL can pay you more, maybe, maybe, per year, that's going to be a short runway and you have very little to no power."

.... the advantage of NFL.
1. No recruiting. 2. GM handles contract negotiations. 3. GM handles roster management. 4. No booster meetings begging for money.
HC has more time to devote to planning, implementing and executing game plan.
It's similar to Chip Kelly and Gus Malzahn (and Tom Allen) saying, "I don't need to fool with all those distractions. Just let me coach."

I believe Dabo is God called to coach.

He has the gift of teaching and the moral compass to turn teenage boys into men and men who respect authority, accountability and responsibility with equity and the relationships between them.
I don't believe the NFL is concerned so much about the players as it is protecting itself from impeachment. Over the course of a lifetime few NFL coaches will have the impact on our society as does Dabo.

Your #3 is what I think he meant by "more control" in the college game.

Many if not most head coaches don't want a role so vital to his and his coaches success controlled by another person and don't see that as an advantage.
I don't think college coaches are handling contract negotiations.
As we saw yesterday, the elimination of limits on the number of coaches has reduced the time demands on the head coach and coordinators for non football related activities.

An NFL is 100% at the pleasure of ownership. Some owners allow coaches room to run, some don't, some allow coaches to make personnel decisions, some don't. There is a reason most NFL head coaches come from another NFL team, not a college team.

That which constitutes an “advantage” vary from person to person.
A FB coach who is not exceptional with the X’s and O’s will find it disadvantageous in a competition where recruiting is irrelevant and where proficiency in bootlicking the boosters is not a KPI (Key Performance Indicator).
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
