Jeadyn Lukus Note

Jun 15, 2021, 3:08 PM

Local Mauldin 5* CB Jeadyn Lukus is fresh off a visit to Clemson from the Elite Retreat this weekend, while he visited UNC the previous weekend.

-It sounds like by tomorrow we will know if Lukus elects to take an official visit to OSU. That would most likely be for that last weekend in June, the 25th. This weekend is dedicated to assessing the two visits that have already been taken and ultimately a timeline for a decision, and most likely a decision.

-UNC is a legitimate threat here. I noted in today's article that Clemson had to thwart UNC's momentum, they did that but do not think that statement meant that UNC was eliminated from contention. UNC has targeted specific people within Lukus' camp and have won those people over, all I am going to say on that. Both sides have reason for optimism and both have reasons to be concerned and that is the best way to sum it up as things stand currently.

-I will say that Clemson significantly helped their case this weekend. Clemson is in a Good spot, and I would favor them, but I can not say with certainty that Lukus will be a Tiger. We should know rather soon as I do not expect Lukus to draw his recruitment out.

I will say this and leave it alone. Kids committing to UNC in this, or the next recruiting cycle, will most likely have another HC before they are done at UNC!!!!

I must gently push back on a couple of cliches on this board:

1. UNC is a basketball school: Everything said here about Mack and the football program being treated as a second class citizen by the AD, the administration and the fans in the 1990s is absolutely correct. Things have changed in Mack 2.0. The AD, administration and big donors are 100% supportive of football being a powerhouse on campus. In recent years, UNC has poured tons of money in upgrading the football facilities: construction of the nicest indoor facility in the country; putting 100% individual seating in Kenan; new turf; locker room upgrade, etc. Construction will start soon on a massive expansion of the football center, designed to compete with Clemson/Alabama. Pre COVID, UNC had its first sell out season in years. Things are changing is my point.

2. Mack will retire in a couple of years: This is false. Mack is tanned and rested after a 5 year absence as a head coach. He's a young, forward thinking 70 year old who has surrounded himself with a young, dynamic, innovative coaching staff. Mack wants staff continuity in the coming years and has given all the assistants handsome raises to keep them on staff. He will coach for another 7-10 years or as long as his health permits. Mack's the same age as Saban and he's not going anywhere as well.

In the immediate future Mack will have UNC in the top 10 on a consistent basis. From Clemson's perspective, this is a good thing as competition is needed at the top in the ACC. Same goes for Miami and FSU. The ACC needs compelling games to drive interest in the league and increase TV revenue.

I agree with everything you posted except for the length of Mack’s remaining tenure. Certainly there’s a chance he could coach 7-10 more years as you mention, but I think it is more realistic to assume 5 years or less. I think he is dedicated to building and leaving a stable football foundation in which his successor can maintain and/or build on.
Their facilities and improved recruiting is starting to pay dividends. I can see them in the CFP in a few years (especially when expanding to 12).

I sure hope we get him, that would be a big pick up for us and I think he will flourish at Clemson.

Clemson better recognize that Dre Bly is not only

Jun 15, 2021, 6:39 PM

an ace recruiter but he has the professional resume to attract top 100 talent to UNC. the pitch: I teach you how to live on and defend that island in man coverage because that's how you make your money as a pro... it doesn't matter what the rest of the team does, you've got one job and you can become a number one pick by standing out alone...

he can't pitch championships so it's got to be a dog eat dog pitch...

Life isn’t all rainbows and butterflies. I have no idea what their situation is but there are plenty of players out there that this may be their best opportunity to change their life and their families lives. Someone that’s looking for that doesn’t always care about a family feel on a team. They want to get to be the best at what they do and go to the NFL where the money is. And no one can really blame them

Lukus’ personal trainer is enamored with Dre. In fact, the trainer and his wife accompanied the family to Chapel Hill for his official visit.

Yep I was not going to come out and say it, LOL.

I just pray that Dabo and staff were aware of this and can somehow put that genie back in the bottle. He is good. They're pitching a similar story that we used a decade ago against FSU... Come here and why not us.

It's not like UNC doesn't have some FB success history. Got to make sure we take care of our traditional recruiting footprint.

UNC pumpers want you to believe Bly is some freshly minted coaching star yet he has been there since 2018. They had the 87th ranked pass defense in the country last year, giving up more yards through the air than Duke.

Bly has coached at UNC for only two seasons (2019, 2020). While Fedora left UNC with lots of talent on the offense, the defensive talent was mediocre. Thus, Dre has had to recruit all new backs for the defensive backfield. Looking forward this season, UNC will have a tremendous backfield with Tony Grimes, J. Conley, Storm Duck, Don Chapman and K. McMichael (Clemson transfer) leading the way. All of these players were brought to CH by Dre. More are on the way.

Tony Grimes and his father are recruiting hard for UNC in Va, particularly in the 757.

So he can recruit, but can he coach?

We have a proven track record of NFL development. UNC does not. We compete for conference and national championships. UNC does not. We’re better everywhere and that’s not going to change any time soon.

First and foremost Clemson isn’t worried about UNC they’re worried about Dre Bly he could recruit Jalen Ramsey back to college football it feels like at times. Lukus is and always was Clemson’s to lose we’ve been to UNC territory and picked out of their backyard the last 2 cycles do not expect them to do it back to us. With Everette they’re legit competition and probably more apt to landing Everette than Clemson is.

I think we’re going to land all three of Pride, Everette, and Lukus.

Re: Jeadyn Lukus Note

Jun 16, 2021, 9:26 AM

I strongly advise you to not get your hopes too high on Everette right now. We’re in it however UNC is the team to beat of course all things are subject to change that’s how it stands now. We’re not just battling Bly with him Tony Grimes has been in his ear as they’re friends and Grimes got a lot of action as a freshmen which obviously is huge.
