I've seen it mentioned on here several times that Jeff Scott

likely took most of the offense with him to USF 2 years ago. If this is true, it does not bode well for Clemson this weekend because NCstate beat Jeff Scott's Team 45-0 in the opening week of the college football season. If most of our offense went to South Florida with Scott, and was not able to score a single point on Doran's NCState defense, then I find it highly unlikely that our remaining offense will fare much better.
thoughts?

Random dudes on tiger net don’t know squat about who is doing what in Clemsons football program. Those are my thoughts.

You are right, but it is pretty easy to tell that the offense doesn't know who is doing what either.

People and kids say the darnedest things. Jeff Scott probably didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn the night before and I would assume our current coaches know Dave Doreon’s weakness is losing and he won’t see what hit him Saturday.

He coached Pop Warner and is probably the third most experienced on this board in football analytics and telemetry. Some people value his knowledge.

Scott was nothing special. If he was USF would be showing a lot more promise than they are. He is a below average OC, and probably not cut out to be a head coach.
When you combined Elliott & Scott you got an average OC at best.
Morris offense was fun to watch, almost never stagnant and looking to find openings constantly. Each passing year has been a steady decline since we parted.

You mean the same offense that could have beat “the best college football team ever” by 5 TDs…… yeah our offense was avg when we had Scott and Elliot….
The main difference between Morris and Scelliot was that Morris wants to run 100 plays a game, and the Scelliot offense ran about 65. Both were effective, but Morris could not adjust either. (See losses to NC St, the coots, FSU)

Honestly that 44-16 over Bama wasn't some fantastically

called offensive game. We had a bunch of 3rd and longs and some great players made great plays to get us out of them.
Higgins had a 60+ yard catch on 3rd and 14. Ross got the long TD on 3rd and long, and then made two circus catches on 3rd and longs on the next drive. Amari also had a big gain on a 3rd and 8ish late in the 1st half.
We finished the game 10/15 on 3rd down and 1/1 on 4th down despite facing long yardage on many of them. Call it lucky, improbable, or simply big time players making big time plays, but I wouldn't call it offensive genius.

All games are won by players making plays. The coaches

make play calls but the players make the plays.
Pretty much every play call ever made by a coach that the players fail to execute “stunk” ...
It’s pretty simple.
Coaches recruit. They run practices. They plan games.
But the players have to actually make things work.
When they do, the coaches are brilliant. When they don’t, the coaches stink.

Coaches can call bad plays, but only players can turn good play calls into bad plays.
It’s Jimmy’s and Joe’s much more than X’s and O’s.

Coaches don't own formations or plays. Surely, our players are way better than Jeff's so the fact that USF played NC State last week should have no bearing on our game.

“Two heads are better than one.” Perhaps, JS and TE were better than the sum of their parts. Now that they are not working together, they are both worse.
Even if I am wrong, I think there is plenty of reason to be concerned about this weekend.

Don't think it was Mostly Jeff Scott! 2nd.

Balm - when coach Scott was here last the OL was pretty good! The OL we have assembled now; just is not progressing to the level we need them to. The offense is doing just enough; because of the skill positions making something happen despite of.
No matter how good your play calling is or how complex your offense - if you don't block it - "offensive football plays do not work"! Unless a tremendous "play like your hair is on fire - fire is lit this week" I think we struggle with Nancy St. but, we win!

The O-line didn't look good against Alabama in 2017, but looked at least passable the rest of the year. We were able to hide some of the deficiencies against lesser teams. I don't know if it was the play calling (I understand that was primarily TE then but JS had an influence especially in philosophy) or if the other parts were just a better fit.
Right now I have a lot of frustration with the O-line, but wonder if play calling could play more to their strengths. I don't think that we will have any problems Saturday or with the rest of the regular season, but if the coaches are too stubborn to change anything then we will be in trouble when we play real competition again. The O-line will be much better at the end of the year, but I don't think it will be enough. I keep telling myself that they will try to adapt, but I am not betting my life savings on it.

He’s a much better WR coach than Grisham and it shows. Never thought I would see Clemson WRs running sloppy routes again, but since he left it’s happening more often.

I think the "offense" being referred to is the part that requires imagination and creativity.
However, it still requires skill and discipline to implement. Scott may be finding he needs help with those.
