have even sniffed the Natty in 1981. Sure, we wound up the only unbeaten team, but even back then, the ACC was considered "The White Meat League". All this strength of schedule garbage, we probably wouldn't ever be ranked No. 1.

There was a time back around the years that you're talking about that the ACC was a pretty strong conference...

When I was there in the mid 90s, you had FSU, NC State (Russell Wilson, Philip Rivers, Tory Holt and they had a ton of NFL D lineman), UVA under Welsh was always good with huge TE and the Barber brothers Tiki and Rodain (misspelled), UNC was good with Curry and Julius Peppers, G Tech was awesome with Megatron, earlier in the 90s Spurrier won an ACC with Duke that led him back to UF, Maryland wasn't bad with the Fridge.

It was a tough league then.

You have a point. Clemson started the '81 season unranked

and only got ranked after beating defending national champ UGA. Then Clemson climbed the polls slowly week by week while about half a dozen teams were ranked #1 and lost and reached number one at the end of the regular season when Pitt beat Penn State.

And to top it off, 2 loss Nebraska was still ranked 4th and were favored to win the Orange Bowl and would have been national champs with a 10-2 record if they had won. Bet they miss those brand bias days.

We were however the only team who beat

3, top 10, teams that season. Jawja, the holes and the husker.

We also struggled with Wofford, Tulane and the woofies
