I'm not afraid of dying... not since that

Aug 14, 2021, 8:29 AM

that 1st bullet in Nam hit the sand a few inches from my face as I lay on my stomach beside that mountain creek so close that it kicked sand in my eyes. At that moment, thinking I would surely die, my only thought was, "What will this do to my mother?" Nowadays, my big worry is how my death will affect my young grandkids because I know how such losses are so much worse at their ages. The thing I am afraid of is long- term hospitalization (because I also know how that is from almost a year in Walter Reed), and MOST IMPORTANTLY, I fear long term disability and rehab because I also know from experience how that is .I selfishly want to have health and independence for as long as possible.

The point here is( not to start another back and forth about control and political statements), to let folks who did not see the report on WYFF4 news last night with the woman from NC who talked about her brother who has been in the hospital for quite a while and is now in an induced coma and reportedly will have to have months of rehab just to learn to walk again if he does manage to recover. This was on TV because she wanted to get the message to others about the vaccine - she had strongly urged her brother to NOT to get it because he was so young and strong and that he did not need to worry about getting seriously ill. He was so strong that they put pictures of him in a football stadium opening his shirt in a Superman-like pose showing a T-shirt saying "STUD". (Vanity sometimes kills). The saddest part was that one picture showed his young kids. She blames herself.

Not trying to control anyone by telling them to go get vaccinated, it's a personal choice - not wanting another back-and-forth with all the name calling , we know where everyone stands on this but if you saw this report maybe one or two studs out there may choose a different path.

PLEASE NO RESPONSES OR ARGUMENTS. Just take a few moments to consider your present or perhaps future kids or grandkids.
