SHOULD be asking. At least those who seem to think there is a snowball's chance Brent Venables would actually return here as our DC.
How many millions are you willing to get up off of to pay the man? Because, he ain't coming back for no pitiful couple million a year. You would have to make him the highest paid DC in the country, by a LONG shot, for that to happen.
And, with schools about to be directly paying athletes in a year or at most two, where is all this money to pay Brent Venables coming from?

If BV is terminated and Oklahoma has to pay him 44.8 million plus or minus a few million remaining on his contract, and there is no clause in his contract that reduces his payout by any amount he may receive from taking another coaching job of any kind at another school, then he may take the job for 2 million.

I would not think he would ever be coming back. If he did it would be to get back with his friends,
the chance to work with Dabo again, and probably be more towards the end of his career. Not thinking it would be all about the money if he went that direction. He has plenty. If he gets canned in the next year or two I think he would try to get another HC position. Personally if things stay as they are I don’t believe Dabo will be here in 5 years so him coming back because of Dabo would be a moot point.

Happens all the time in football. Saban hired a few former head coaches (one from the NFL.) Coaching is a tough gig or was. Now they have enormous buy outs so some you never see again. Aka…Tommy Bowden or Jimbo. Neither one needed anything related to a job after they were dismissed.
