Jul 26, 2021, 4:48 PM

one of those two teams, is Notre Dame a free agent and no longer bound by contract to the ACC?

Yes. If they were offered and refused.

Yes they are a free agent or yes they are still bound to ACC until 2036?

The only conference ND can become a new full member before

2036 is the ACC.

I believe the 2036 year is because of the tv contract with espn that all the members signed. The reason conferences add new members is to increase tv footprint and negotiate a new tv contract. If the ACC got two new members and negotiated a new tv contract all the members would need to sign. ND might choose to not sign. If that would be the case ND has major influence over the ACC and is not even a full member. Hope this is not the case.

Why would we want when they're only need for the ACC in other sports to draw a yearly pay check. I'm sure there is something in their FB contract with NBC, that they would have to sell their TV rights for all other sports on the free market. Joining the ACC in all sports with the exception of FB and Hockey, gave them a steady income with just one contract with the ACC!!! They weren't the dumb A$$ES in making that deal, the ACC was!!!!

Not sure why people keep acting as if the ACC made this deal with ND out of the goodness of their hearts. Is the ACC getting as much out of television deals as they would with ND as a full member? Certainly not, but ESPN gets the rights to all the ND/ACC games played at ACC venues which means when ND travels to Clemson ESPN gets that game. ESPN also gets the rights to all their other sports.

Now, how much money does that add to the ACC television contract? It’s hard to say exactly, but it’s silly to pretend like that number is zero.

You also have to consider that like it or not, the ACC as a whole isn’t as marketable as the SEC or Big 10 so getting ND to where their only option to join a conference through 2036 is the ACC is a gamble worth trying.
