I hope not. Give it to someone else who is more aggressive and not so timid. IMO

While I also want to see us blitz and not waste our LB talent, Dabo has never changed a coach mid-season and I don't believe he will here either. His record shows post-season evaluation and changes.

He won’t change mid season but I doubt he sees whatever low level bowl game we go to.

What would yall think about BEN BOULWARE taking over? He knows Venables schemes and ain't afraid to run through a brick wall. While we're at it,hire Skalski as his assistant. I'm not usually one for hiring old players but those 2 get it.

Yeah, let's go from one person with almost no experience to someone with even less

Knowing how something is run, then teaching how it should be run are two completely different things.

Absolutely Fking not, hasn't this Clemson FB program already tried its share of coaches with little to no coaching experience. From here on out forever, Dabo shouldn't ever hire another coach without proven experience of no less than 10 years of experience coaching that position, period!!!

But we have too many family and friends hires with little if no coaching experience as is.
A better choice would be Jesse Bobbit. He's the D coordinator and linebackers coach for San Diego State.
His defense gave up an average of 9.3 points per game last year. 9.3 !!!!!
That kind of defense makes up for a lot of bad offense.

No, he won’t. Also, hopefully he realizes - this lose was much more on the coaches than the players (though there appears to be no mirrors in their offices).

If Dabo refused to bench DJ too prevent a loss to the gamecocks , I doubt he’d be inclined to fire Wes to prevent a loss to the gamecocks

One more game with our defense playing like it did against Louisville, and Goodwin will be the first coach leaving Clemson as soon as the regular season is over. The one thing that Dabo has proven that he won't tolerate, and that is a coaching position that has had more than one total breakdowns. Just ask the fired coaches under Dabo's Head Coaching career

Wes isn't going anywhere. Didn't you read that when Dabo hired in to the position he was wanted by multiple teams in college and the NFL! We just haven't given him time to get his people in place and gotten them to buy in to the scheme yet. Another 3 years ought to do it!
All of this was espoused with tongue firmly entrenched in my cheek!

IMO its the lack of viable personel up front. No pass rushers other than woods

when your D line is ineffective it puts more pressure on the linebackers and DBs and gives all the advantages to the WR running the route and the QB that has the time to wait. When Clemson was dominant they had a dominant DL. We probably won't sniff that until we figure a way to get those D Lineman back to Clemson.

Before Brent Venables had enough time to recruit his own defensive players, he had to coach his A$$ off to make the D players that was at Clemson when he came, suitable until he could make his job easier with his type of D players, that's what an experienced coach can do...

that off. Thats like saying we're going to get Saban to coach the defense next year. Venables was 1 or 1a in terms of best DCoordinators in the country at a prominent school. I wouldn't expect Dabo to pull that off again but who knows. I'd like to see if he could and he might be doing something similar as we speak.

we have issues with our front 7, Woods is the only guy on the team capable of playing SDE at an elite level, and he has been injured more than not, no depth behind him. Denhoff got his behind whooped by an injured player on Saturday and played about 90% of the snaps, that should have been a red flag for a long day.. We have no depth at linebacker, none. Woodazz and Carter played pretty much the entire game, we have been playing mostly nickel with Barnes essentially filling in the 3rd linebacker spot, and again, playing the entire game.
We also played with 2-Dline men who were injured along with woods because of cut blocks they were not prepared for. When Venables was here, we would shove the cut blockers to the ground and run past them; instead, our guys got knocked down to their knees. And we do not have a single Defensive tackle in the rotation who will play at the next level, JMHO
As far as Goodwin, who are we going to replace him with? He is hardly the worst coordinator out there, and when the talent has been there, they have performed well. Outside of a handful of guys in the secondary, and a few players up front, we do not have the talent and experienced depth to be a top-ten defense this year. OCuld Vanable have coached these guy up better, yes.

I felt like our defense has under performed since BV left. D was better the first year or two, but still not what it should have been considering who we had on the field... Just my opinion...

no arguments, but venables don't grow on trees. He is a rare bird, and we should consider ourselves fortunate to have had him as long as we did. No way we beat Bama without him, nor win the titles. He put on a clinic in the second title against Bama, he had Tua's number all night.

It's always a coach. We scored 18 points under our average and Louisville scored 3 points and had almost 100 fewer yards than their average. You figure it out and answer your own question.

I'll say it again! Wes isn't getting fired this season. Look how long it took for some of the other coaches to get fired. I know some will say coordinators have a shorter leash, but Dabo has established a precedent of firing someone well after they needed to be. We still have coaches on staff who seem to have an unlimited leash such as Richardson and Grisham.

My thought is the while it has not been good it is not bad enough to make a change. He'll think Wes has had decnet defenses for the last two seasons and that he'll get if figured out. NCAA has us ranked at the #67 defense. We ended last seasson at the #32 defense, but lets face it the D was really good and the offense as non-existent so the D had it's back to the wall every game. Therfore I think with a good offense the defense would have been a top 10 last season. Even with our drop off a cliff this season Dabo is not going to blame Wes for it.

Seems to me in previous seasons the team has laid an egg vs Syracuse and Pitt.
It didn't define the entire season or the abilities of the coaching staff...
