Don’t worry about Clemson being able to attract/afford/poach a replacement …
If the head coaching job was available at Clemson, wouldn’t all the biggest names be considered for the job…
Same is tru for DC…. We can afford one off the top shelf.
That being said, we might be able to afford BV as long as he doesn’t feel it’s necessary fo be a head coach …

I have no doubts about another top names. The only 2 things I hate about it is...Recruits and a new scheme, years and years of guys coming up and learning this scheme, especially at LB, it was like a well oiled machine. Just sucks to have to start over from that sense.

I don't know. Michigan changed defensive coordinators and didn't skip a beat. Probably even improved some. With a wise pick, Clemson could do the same.

I have thought that. Bates is very sharp and very highly-regarded by players and staff alike within the program, he seemed like the next guy up if we promoted from the inside.
The proof is usually in the pudding. I'll admit I've been less than sold by Lemanski Hall as DE's coach precisely because he simply hasn't recruited or developed players like Marion Hobby did, but there has been exactly zero drop-off (and maybe even a slight improvement) in our DT production since Bates replaced Dan Brooks, who was as good a DL coach as even the SEC has ever produced.
Doesn't mean Bates will necessarily be able to replace Venables 1-for-1 the same way but I dunno if I'd necessarily bet against him either. Dude can coach. We might well end up seeing if he's ready.

Bates has been one of our best recruiters, 2019 Rivals Recruiter of the year. Would be a little concerned that he hasn't called plays in his career.
