Of Louisville chip blocking…and if so, why weren’t we prepared for it?

Whether there was film or not we should have made an adjustment after the first time they did it. Against GaTech we learned to line up about 1/2 to 1 yard off the line of scrimmage. That allowed space so the OL couldn’t execute their chop blocks and it help shut down their run game. We should have done that and forced their QB to beat us with his arm single handily.

"Chip" blocking is when a receiver (usually RB or TE) makes it appear that he is going to block a defender, but instead just brushes his shoulder when he runs by.

"Cut" blocking is what you're concerned about and is often completely legal - when it's done from the front and within the tackle box. As a TE, I did it all the time and because I wasn't as big as many of the DTs and LBs I had to block, it was the only way I could block the defender effectively:
