How to beat Texas: Clemson edition

First and foremost: we need to be able to run the ball.
We were unable to run the ball against UGA, SC (mostly), and SMU.
We’re 1-2 in those games.
We have two weeks to get EZ/Adams Jr. ready. We’re going to really need to capitalize if we want to have a shot.
Being able to control some TOP in a hostile environment is going to be crucial.
—
Defensively, I think we can hold our own. Yes, we’re going to give up some yards but I think we can keep them out of the end zone.
—
We still haven’t seen this Clemson team play 4 Quarters of Clemson FB… We’ve seen a lot of 2.5 quarters, but now we need to lock in and lettem have it for 60 mins.

Adams is a short-yardage back..not a game breaker. EZ is the only viable "change of pace" option, IMO.
I also think we're going to see a heavier than expected dose of Manning, especially in the 2nd half.
Sark is no idiot. I think from a purely coaching standpoint, this is a tough matchup for Goodwin.

I expect we’ll struggle to run the ball, especially with our current RB situation. My hope is that we’ll limit the screens and attack downfield. Conservative play calling isn’t going to win this one.

I think Wes Goodwin is a liability. He can be defended somewhat statistically

his defense is porous on third and long. Prevent defense is stupid. Wes will likely give Ewers the chance to have a career day. Wes will once again wither and die just before the finish line. His luck will run out Saturday. I hope I'm wrong.

How to beat Texas: Let someone else call the Defensive plays/schemes. No way at the present that this is a solid defense. Cade has to have a great game. Under 20 points won't win this game. Rely on those young receivers. Forget the running game, for it doesn't exist. Cade must be a gunslinger, and produce the BIG plays. OC Riley must go downfield, execute the vertical/deep ball game. Stop the dink and dunk theory, for it doesn't and has not produced any good yardage for Clemson all season. Go deep. Every CB makes mistakes if enough deep balls are thrown. This is how you beat Texas.

Cade continues to hold the ball too long. He holds the ball until the rec comes out of the break instead of having the ball arrive when they come out of the break. Cole Turner needs a seat on the bench and T Brown needs to get back in paying shape. We must add some element of misdirection and pre-snap movement to our offence and break tendencies. I though Chad Morris was coming back. He was a master play designer!
Barrett Carter must play better. Far too often his is out of position on run plays and he misses late TE releases and backs out of the backfield.

Our run game also needs all the OL to be healthier.

We need all hands on deck on the OL. Mafah needs to get healthy, but add to that the entire OL. I agree with Ridgeland Booster, in that EZ is really our only option outside of Mafah as a change of pace back. But our OL is going to be key vs their DL. Throughout most of second half vs. SMU our OL was trying their best, but getting their butts handed to them regularly and Luke has had to string this OL together with bubblegum and duct tape due to injuries. Luke needs more money in my opinion for the job he has done this year.

The only concern I have is the secondary. We have played 2 good passing teams this year. Louisville and SMU. I don’t count UGA as a good passing team they are balanced. I think they prefer to run the ball. Our secondary struggled in both games against Louisville and SMU. I think the struggle stopping the loss against Louisville helped them be able to run the ball. Texas will have the best receiving core we will see. Wingo and Bond are really good. Different types of speed. Bond has the Kentuckys kid speed that torched us in the gator bowl. If we get our dline healthy and think we can negate that with pass rush. I think we can get home and get pressure on whatever Texas quarterback they play.
