the expectation of the university of him is not to go to the playoffs every year, if ever honestly. Since the 80s, Clemson has been a mediocre program until Dabo came here. He has far exceeded expectations. If he starts having teams that go 8-4, 9-3, throw an occasional 10 win season in there, that will be a step back, but it will be a step back to meeting the expectations. May not be as good as he once was, but good enough to meet expectations of the program and keep his job.

Clemson’s downward slide started in 92, not the 80’s we won the ACC in 91. Since 78 - 91 we were Relevant. Then 92- 2005 we were mediocre. Tommy Bowden built a foundation. Dabo built the culture. Now if you’re comparing how long between National championships? Then there’s a ton of mediocre programs.

FYI you dumba-s-s
I think he HAS earned the right to be here much longer than most people or the admin would tolerate if things keep heading south. We have to give the best coach we’ve ever had time to turn it around. I simply started a conversation. But if you're too much of a snowflake to ponder hypotheticals, maybe you should stay off social media.

I think we’ve seen throughout recent years that no coach is guaranteed anything and fans have short memories of the good times. Look at Bobby Bowden and plenty of others. To a much lesser degree even Spurrier. Ed O found out what happens when you combine personal miscues with not winning. Some could say we’ve had our share of off the field incidents recently. If you combine that with some of the negative press Dabo has received over the last year or two (whether deserved or not, I believe not) then the tide can turn real fast on a coach.

In the end, it’s all about the $$$ and if fans still believe you’re the guy to get it done. I’m not ready to write Dabo and staff off though over one season. He has done more for Clemson football than anyone.

other coach in our history. We made the CFP six straight years and won national titles in 2016 and 2018. That type of success surpasses anything Frank Howard and Danny Ford did for Clemson. Dabo is also a young man with plenty of years of coaching ahead of him.

I think that’s accurate. I fully expect us to be back at the top of the ACC though next year. Too much talent and I think the offense will be fixed one way or another by then.

It would cost us $40+ million to part ways after 2023. That’s why all this pissing and moaning is so pointless. There is no way he is fired in the next 5 years no matter what happens on the field.

No, not as long as he wants. But he certainly has "earned the right" for 4 to 6 more years regardless of record. And I feel okay saying that as I know the record will likely be way above the best of any other coach over a 6 year period. Go to this summary of Clemson's records over the years. Scroll down through all the coaches looking at the "AP Post" (final AP poll rankings) column. Look at all the single digits beside Dabo's name and compare to any other Clemson coach, including Danny. If the run from 2014 to 2020 does not "earn" Dabo the right to continue to coach the Tigers, then no coach anywhere can earn it.

No coach should get as long as they want unless you want it to end ugly eventually. How many times have we seen that happen.

Doesn't matter what he has earned or what his future performance might be. He was awarded a 10 year, 93 million dollar contract that goes through 2028. The contract is what matters. Has he done a good job at having every facility built that he could dream up as well as attracting great players? Sure has. Will he get the boat turned around from 1 down year? Probably will. Remember, with the highest paid staff playing in one of the weakest conferences best is the standard. Those are his words. If the recruits keep coming he will get it turned around no question. If recruiting goes south then it will be back to 8-4 or 9-3. Really just noise. Dabo will be here as long as he wants to be here as he holds all the cards.

I think so. He's a Bobby Bowden type. Not much of a strategy

guru, but really recruits well. he just needs to bring in the good offensive coaches to make it work. Or, we can wait until we recruit a #1 pick in the NFL draft QB again.

It will still be here after we are all long gone. My allegiance is to the University, not Dabo, not football. Dabo is a highly paid employee with expectations that his performance is adequate for the amount paid. I believe Dabo wouldn't have a problem at all with my post.

Sounds right to me.

Coach Swinney has softened with wealth, he has misjudged some coaches, players & recruits, he has hired his friends and created a country club lifestyle for coaches & players.

All that said, Clemson owes Dabo a lot. While Dabo has been fortunate that Chad successfully recruited DW4 and TL16 decided to attend Clemson, he is the architect of this program. IMHO DW4, TL16, CW42, BV and Dabo have been the key ingredients along with HR13, IS11 and a handful of others who have made these championships happen. And it has taken all of them.

But make no mistake, Coach Swinney is the leader. And he is irate and regaining some of his fire. Expect a bounce back in 2022. T.E. stays on staff but not as play caller. Expect Dabo to get out of play calling as well.

Don't you think this conversation is going a little far? Dabo is the best coach we've had at Clemson. One bad season can't take that away from him.

If Bobby Bowden can be told its time to hang it up, then anyone can. He literally built that program from the beginning.

I definitely believe he is I forwarded a little latitude . Three seasons like this one and I believe he would burn his backside on his chair.
I really don’t want that. I love Dabo as a coach and a Man. But head coach of Clemson is not a popularity contest. It is productivity driven.
I never thought I would see Danny Ford fired.

I believe Coach Swinney has earned the right over the past few years to have 3 or 4 years of doing it his way. Whatever way that is. (Keeping the current staff, not taking transfers, not recruiting enough players, having so many former players and buddies / friends on his staff.

Hopefully we continue to have great success and this was just one bump in the road.

However after 3 or 4 years if we are finishing 8-4ish for all three or four years it may be time to move on. Will the administration agree with me I’m not so sure! I’m really not. I think they may be happy and okay with 8-4 seasons from Coach Swinney. Now you mix in some 6-6 seasons and they’ll start to get really uneasy.

Also depends on our little brother south of us. Are they still horrible? Or are they making improvements on the field? Are we beating them in our 8-4 seasons? I know quite a few fans that are “okay” with 8-4 type seasons as long as we beat the dirtpeckers. We start losing to them and more people will begin to change their minds and would put more pressure on the AD to move on and make a change.

Just my 2 cents.

Ten years ago all of you whining and moaning would have done just about anything to see multiple ACC championships, multiple national championships, six straight playoff runs, six straight over USuCk...

Not only has Dabo done all that, but he's done it while maintaining the integrity of the football program, graduating players at a tremendous rate, with a minimum of off the field and character issues.

So cry me a river that you're not getting everything you want for the rest of time. Anyone who thought Clemson would just maintain at that level forever with no hiccups was frankly delusional.
