How about schools raise

The academic standards for incoming athletic freshman to the same as regular students. If these kids wanna be paid all this money to play college sports while having lower standard of academics for entrance just doesn’t seem to fair anymore. Major sports would greatly suffer if these kids couldn’t even get into college on the same merits that the rest of the student body had to do to get into school. I know it want ever happen though.

You are joking right? Fair???? Man you know it has not had anything to do with Education in a a long long time. Sure if a person wants to get an education while playing they certainly can but nobody is forcing it on them! They don’t even hide that anymore!

That would be great for schools like Ole Miss (98% acceptance rate). They could still admit just about any athlete they want, since they have such low standards for regular students.

THE SCHOOLS ARE NOT PAYING PLAYERS.
Why does this have to be said over and over again?
The players are simply allowed to be paid for using their name image and likeness which is a basic right that never should have been denied to them as an adult in America.
No different than a college student going and getting a job at Subway.

They will be paying them this summer! The revenue sharing deal will allow up to $22 million.

Really? Well they may have created a loop hole that creates a facade that the school is not playing players but the athlete surely isn’t getting paid without the school. And 90% are not getting paid for their NIL I happen to agree they should get Nil so if they are being used on a game let that game owner pay them. If they do a commercial pay them. But that’s not what’s happening now and supposedly by summer the new rule will be every school can “ share 23 Million in revenue! They are being paid to play!

Sounds like you need find an Ivy League team to support. College athletes have every advantage with tutors, academic advisory centers and many chose a less than tough major but they still have perform in the classroom to be eligible.

I was referring to standards to get accepted into school. Obviously once they get in they are giving all the tools needed to not flunk out.

It'll never happen because the Universities are too greedy. Fine, then drop this ridiculous facade and just say academic enrollment is not required because these guys are being paid to play football for the school.

Exactly. Then they would strictly be employees.

Then we could fire them if we don't like how they are playing or if they are not good for team chemistry.
Since they would also be foregoing higher education, it would be on them to figure out what they are going to do after their football careers are over (which, for the overwhelming majority of them, would be in their early 20s).

Schools love the revenue and fan engagement resulting from big time athletics. Fans love it because it is a source of pride and enjoyment.
If we raise the standards for admission for athletes, we would not field teams which are nearly as talented. We would also see the schools with lower admission requirements have an advantage over schools with tougher admission standards.
