The Clemson study was studying abroad. Her story is down a bit. Apparently already back in Lexington.

I get the feeling this is going to be bad. I don’t see how we can stop it from spreading. This will affect humans for years to come.

in one month more deaths than SARS had total

with 5 times as many cases.
The problem is that it takes 3-4 weeks to kill you. There weren't many cases 3-4 weeks ago. The death total is going to rise.
You already can not find masks in the US and it hasn't even arrived here yet other than a few isolated cases.
You can be walking around giving this thing to other people for a week before symptoms arise. It's going to be near impossible to stop.

Short term-quarantine is only answer. They'll likely draw blood from sick and non sick alike. Vaccine will take time but can be done if mutations don't become overly common. Measles was wiped out until some idiots burning incense and eating organic avocados decided they knew best and didn't vaccinate their kids. Hope they are happy despite what they did to other people's kids.

Also, they say it will take 1 year minimum to get a vaccine out on the market for it too.

Is this virus as bad as the flu?

"CDC estimates that influenza has resulted in between 9 million – 45 million illnesses, between 140,000 – 810,000 hospitalizations and between 12,000 – 61,000 deaths annually since 2010."
I'm not trying to make light of the story with the student (or anybody having the virus). Just something to think about.

Isolation is necessary to protect others. We still don't know a lot about this virus and China is as usual by not being forthcoming about what is really going on. Neither are they allowing any medical experts from the outside to enter and help. As Carlsbad said don't take cruises. They are some of the most disease infected environments on the planet. I also wonder when it comes to education what does China have to offer that the US doesn't?

China is isolating 10's of millions and it doesn't appear

to be working. It will be much harder to isolate 10's of millions of Americans. We can't easily block all the roads out of Charlotte and quarantine the whole city. We can't lock people in their apartment buildings and tell them they can only leave to get food 1 person per family every 2 days. Martial law in the USA won't be easy.

The officials in Wuhan sat on their hands for some time before letting the politburo know. No telling how many infected people left the area not knowing they were carriers. We in this country can not afford not to take the precautions necessary to adequately protects us. I think you are being a little unreasonable when you talk about blocking roads and quarantining cities. What is important is that everyone entering this country that has the remote possibility of being infected be isolated the proper amount of time until the danger of spreading the virus has past. Then it won't be necessary to block roads and close cities. JMO

Well its in 24 countries besides China, Hong Kong, Taiwan

and Macau. Seems to be sustaining in a few of the other countries. You can spread the disease before you show any signs at all. Some never get a fever and have minor symptoms while spreading it. One dude got on a ship with the virus and now they is at least 69 have the disease and probably more. Sure it travels on a ship easier than other places. Maybe the one guy might have only spread it to 10 or so like the German company.
Hopefully it will be stopped. Many experts think it is pandemic already.
